I have bought many desktop PC in my life, only once I bought a laptop 10 years ago.

Now, I am looking for a gaming/working laptop that is also not too bulky. Through my (incomplete) research, I narrowed down to Razer Blade 15, and Xiaomi Mi 15.6.

The earlier is much expensive > 3k while the latter is $2,149. I couldn't find much reviews on Xiaomi though.

Any advice appreciated !

Good suggestion, thanks !
It definitely fits into the sleek and affordable category, it seems to run hot after long hour of gaming though.

No slim and light gaming laptop runs cool on gaming. Every one of them has cooling issues. This is the reality. You'll never find a laptop thats thin and light and can run cool.

If you're considering Razer blade 15 it'd help to know the razer blade runs abt 10 degrees hotter than apex 15.

Prime 15 is also a possible consideration but its cooling system is pure ****(as a p15 owner). Unelevated on witcher 3 i get abt 88 degs max.

And no, you wont find a decent slim and light gaming laptop for <2k. These are 'premium' laptops so all companies charge extra, Aftershock included. The cheapest slim n light laptop among all Trusted brands(note i never include xiaomi in this list, ever) is sold by Aftershock(P15/Apex 15): about 2.4-2.6k

I'd recommend never buying xiaomi laptops cuz there's no local warranty. Its third party imported direct from china with no official reseller and no local repair centre. Your 'gaming' laptop conk out in the first year or after(which by the way, happens often to almost all gaming laptops), have fun sending it all the way back to China for repairs, and that's if Xiaomi even agrees to repair a laptop that was'nt actually bought from them.

How about the Dell XPS15? 1.8kg is pretty manageable for a 15 incher with a 1050. Or the Gigabyte Aero 15 around the same weight has slightly better specs but costs a lot more.

Why not consider the Lenovo Legion Y520.
15.6'' Screen
I7-7700HQ
128GB SSD + 2TB HDD
GTX 1050TI /8GB DDR4

Slightly heavier at 2.4kg but a lot cheaper, only $1279

the stats look similar to the Mx-15 range except the gfx card has only 2GB

When you configure the same specs,

Lenovo Legion Y530

Aftershock's MX-15 is still only 1489 instead of Lenovo's 1699

but the XPS15 is very pricey here.
if u hve the cash, no problem.

(but if u hve the cash, i would rather go for the aftershook unit)

another way is to get the refurbished set in US and send to here.

Both are insanely priced in SG. Aero 15 goes for minimum 3.1k SGD, as does the XPS 15. And thats the base specs of 16gb ram etc. For what you're getting, completely overpriced and not worth at all. Only thing good about these laptops is they look good. Thats all.

For that price you might as well get a Asus Zephyrus or Razer Blade 15 that has a 1060, and is similarly priced, and is lighter and thinner and more gorgeous than either of those two laptops.

Further researched

Thanks for all feedback.

I just went to Aftershock showroom at Boon Keng just now. APEX 15 looks nice enough for me (not love at first sight, but doable). The screen is abit plasticky, can be bent easily. What's important is, they got COMEX offer till tomorrow !

For all equal league laptop, considering all the prices, I think Aftershock Apex 15 is going to be a winner. Its promotion price only SGD 2335 now

- Both Razer Blade and XPS 15 2-in-1 is really cool as well, price abit out of reach :o
- Lenovo Legion is not within the league of GTX 1060.
- HP Omen came close at $2699, it looks more bulkier tho

Is that HP omen you mentioned a GTX 1070 version? If iirc that should indeed be the price of a 1070 HP Omen. That is a decent price for a 1070 gaming laptop imo and you could compare with other 1070 laptops instead.

In comparison, Aftershock Prime-15 with a 1070 Max Q, 16gb ram, 512gb SSD, 144Hz IPS panel priced approx 2.8k. Note the difference here is that the Prime 15 is a Slim-and-Light level gaming laptop(1.9kg, 18.6mm) which is much lighter and slimmer than the Omen. Just some food for thought.

Cooling-wise, I got no clue how well the Prime 15 can cool a 1070 Max Q. My own personal experience with it cooling a GTX 1060 is pretty subpar; If i dont elevate it, temps can jump to 88-89 degs. With its bulkiness, Omen definitely can cool the 1070 better. I personally hate carrying heavy bulky laptops so for me P-15 was the best of both worlds(gaming and portability) liao.

The HP Omen is 1060 variants, I saw it at Challenger NEX yesterday

Specs below:
i7-8750H
GTX 1060 144hz IPS
Ram 16GB, 256GB NVMe SSD, 2TB HDD

With your experience with Prime, what is your recommendation with Apex15 ?

I like Apex15 slightly more due to its thinner bezel size, and smaller footprint.

There’s always a trade off between thermals, size and performance. Laptops are not made for extensive long periods of gaming.

A desktop if you do not have mobility requirements and space constraints for all intents and purposes is cheaper and better for gaming.

A Hexacore i7 8750H is great for future proofing, though a quad core i7 7700HQ is great as well if you can get a fine balance between specs and performance such as the Asus ROG hero series that was on promotion prior (12gb ddr4, GTX1060 6gb non Max Q)

Wew, 2.7k for a bloody 1060 laptop? I'd curse at the salesperson who tried to sell such a overpriced laptop to me sia. Sg retailers nowadays, I swear. Overpricing laptops like no tommorow

Apex 15 definitely has better cooling capabilities and better build design, which i could attribute to it being slightly thicker than the P-15. But I can't tell you definitively since I never owned one myself nor had the chance to go and stress test it. My suggestion is go down to the HQ and have a chat with the techs and go stress test it yourself. Bring a Hardrive along, load some benchmarking software or Witcher 3/MHW and stresstest it for yourself.

You can watch Dave2D's vid on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HubbDiz0nsc&t=223s.

Omen price is fair compared to Apex 15. The HP premium is due to extra 2TB Hdd, and 16gb RAM.

Omen with GTX 1070 is $3.6k man
http://h20386.www2.hp.com/Singapore...omen-laptops&dclid=CN2V4viSz90CFQnzjwodxhoEeQ

16gb ram is NOT a premium. Its BASIC specs rofl. You telling me 2TB HDD worth 600$ more than the Mx15? Nah. I can get a 2TB HDD myself for 130+ SGD and install it myself.

I dont see any premium lol. 2.7k is a bloody ripoff.

Shouldnt compare a slim-and-light gaming laptop with a lower-end thick-heavy gaming laptop. The omen is alot more bulky, which diminishes its price benefit and depreciation rate.

By comparison: Mx15 Pro with 1060, 16gb ram, 256 NVME SSD, 2TB HDD, 144HZ IPS screen goes for 2.1k SGD. This is the laptop you should compare to. And you'll see how much of a bloody SCAM that HP Omen is rofl.

A fully specced out Prime 15 with a 1070 Max Q:

1070 Max Q, 144HZ IPS, 16gb Ram, 512GB M.2 SSD, 2TB SSHD : 3k SGD

Note the Prime 15 is a premium slim-and-light gaming laptop.

The hp omen 1070 is a mid-range thick-and-heavy gaming laptop with shittier specs YET costs 3.6k SGD

See why i'm so annoyed by sg retailers now? Selling crap specs for so much rofl.
