Hello all,

I surfed the sites of both 台铁 (Train), 高铁 (Hi-speed train) and trying to find the time-table for the month of September but they aren't available except till the month of June.

I am planning to head down to Taichung from Taipei before heading back to Taipei from Taichung by train during the planned travel period, it's quite essential to know the train schedule before I plan my itinerary.

Furthermore, I realised there is tendency of not having train services run to and fro Taipei and Taichung on daily basis, so should I go ahead to plan my itinerary without knowing the train timetable or wait for the timetable to release?

As I worry if the late release of the time-table, I would have to pay more for my flight and hotel :(

They operate hourly basis. As often as 2 trips per hour.
Buses interval is about 15-30mins.
No need worry about that.

As in this case, you are referring to Taipei/Taichung route that there are trains running on hourly basis everyday? The bus you mentioned is those long distance bus?

Also, I wonder should I buy tickets online before flying off or buy the tickets over the counter? I am planning to head down to Taichung from Taipei on a Thursday and head back to Taipei from Taichung on a Monday

I would prefer to take 台铁 for my travelling

Bus and train takes the same time.
Train is better for toilet, bus for comfort.
Your choice.
No need to book ahead if you are a lone traveller.
And there is no need to open one thread for one question.

Sep is still quite far away. you can use the current time table to plan. it should not change a lot. if you intend to travel to/fro in a day, i'd suggest u take the hsr as it takes only 40min 1 way. take tra train takes 2hrs 1 way.

The tra and hsr frequencies to taichung are very frequent. less than 30min between trips in most instances.

TRA timetable: http://twtraffic.tra.gov.tw/twrail/
HSR timetable: http://www.thsrc.com.tw/index.html?force=1

When buying hsr ticket they will ask u wanna buy the one with seat number or without seat number .

Would advise to take the one with seat number.
price diff not much. (eg: tpe to taoyuan diff is 10ntd)
coz i realized there is wifi inside the train, if you sit at the one with seat number allocated to you. whereas those free seating cabin, like no wifi inside. not sure why ...

maybe can ask bro calkel ...

They will not ask ba... Usually give with seat allocated, unless that 班車滿座, then they will tell you so and ask if you want the next train boh.
HSR can take if early bird, if not, i am leaning more to Normal tze chiang train.
