Help! PCIe slot tip broken.

Yesterday while trying to insert my graphic card into my motherboard, I press too hard and the plastic tip of the pcie slot broken. But I'm still able to read my graphic card on my system.

Is the plastic tip important? Will the graphic card have any problems in the future? Should I go exchange 1 for 1 within 7 days?

Please help!

You mean the plastic clip on the mobo? You do need to release that in order to remove your gpu... U try to remove ur gpu the normal way. If cant remove, den u GG le.

And i doubt you can get 1-to-1 exchange even if its within 7 days as that is user mishandle and not mobo self damaged.

Yes that's the part. I tried to insert the gpu but my desktop can't read the card from device manager. Only shows onboard graphics. So I tried to remove and insert a few times more before able to read. So I don't dare to to move it now.

If I go back to shop and say it is broken before I insert the card, will they buy it?

How you gonna prove? Usually for that part, if its broken, high chance its user mishandle.. They aint idiots just coz they are indians u know...

When did you bought it and when did you broke it? If the difference is a few days, then hard le. If it is one day, then still got chance.

I bought it yesterday, planning to bring it down later. But if let's say I leave it as it is, will there be a future complication?

None as far as i know, but it will be hard to remove your gpu. Since u bought it ytd nia, can try to go back and ask for 1-to-1. If failed, then bo bian need go service centre bah.

Do read the manual on how to use the components next time if u r unsure.

I'm still able to pull out the gpu unit easily. Just that the slot is broken.

Then, it wun be a problem bah.. Will affect resale value i guess.

Its not a problem actually. The plastic clip is only meant to secure the card in the slot esp. during handling. Cause when you move the CPU (esp during shipment of PC), the graphics card may pop slightly out of the slot.

Well if u screwed the bracket, it wont pop out from the pcie slot.

Don't bother much about the PCIe slot retainer tab if broken. The stupid tab is one of the worst designed ever for graphic bus/slot especially when using long graphic card with equally long and 2/3 slots heatsink/air chute mounted on the card.

Using long graphic card, it is near impossible to reach for the tab when you need to remove the graphic card. This tab hide directly at the middle section under the 2/3 slots heatsink/air chute, You are better off without this stupid tab.

Okay thank you all. Just tried to take out the gpu and slot it in, my computer still reads the gpu so I guess I won't be changing it.

Wah lao, don't scare the guy la, this is just a plastic clip meant to keep the GPU in place. It's not a big deal la, the screw will do much of the work in keeping the GPU from falling off, if it works then I'd just forget about it because getting an RMA for this is probably going to be a pain in the a$$...
