Hi there. I will be heading to Taiwan for an exchange programme under fee-paying scheme, which will be about five months. Any good insurance to recommend?

Usually exchange programme requires you to have travel insurance, and at least $100,000 worldwide death / TPD coverage if I am not mistaken.

If you have AVIVA SAF insurance that you got in NS time (Provided you never cancel when you ORD), then good for you (That death / TPD coverage is ensured at least). If you do not serve NS (PES F, or being a lady), then you may want to seek what insurance recommendation does your school provide.

Hospitalization can be a tricky issue because most of the shield plans are designed to cover local hospital (Private or government) bills and does not cover overseas exchange programme.

Hospitalisation plan do cover oversea inpatient medical treatment but pegged to cost of Singapore hospital.

So it would be better to buy in Singapore? I was also given the choice to buy at overseas university, if I did not buy one in Singapore.

I think hospitalization wise, it is better to buy with the overseas uni instead. This is because although some if not all private integrated shield plan covers overseas hospitalization, the price tag is heavier and more importantly, it is pegged to local rate.

So what if the hospitalization bill is more expensive in Taiwan (Since you as a foreigner there, you don't expect to get subsidy and most likely you are required to stay in higher ward class / private hospital equivalent depending on host country's healthcare system)? I am not sure, but if that is the case, then you still can get bill shock if you experienced sh!t.

If the hospitalization bill is (much) cheaper than Singapore there, then whats the point of getting expensive hospitalization plan when the local plan there is much cheaper. Since this is NOT an endowment, so you can always opt to pay monthly / semi-annually to cover the term that you are on exchange.
