Hi all,

I got a big problem. So I'm a uni student, and I am doing my internship overseas. It was supposed to be <6 months, and it clashed with my original ICT, but deferment was successful, so all gucci.

However, I decided to extend my trip to travel and because I used STA Travel, there were some special conditions that I need to adhere to, thus there was only 1 or 2 dates where I can change my return flight to. That time a bit gan chiong and didn't want to think too much if not heart pain when spend too much money, so I just extended it. I also booked my accommodation and transport. Fast forward 2 weeks later to now, I realize that my trip would be >6 months in total.

I read on NS.sg online article that I just have to reapply MNC notification and apply for Exit Permit together, which I both did. Apparently Exit Permit is successfully already, so all gucci. Then I went to reread my ICT deferment letter. They mentioned something like I will be called up for MUT with another unit 13-27 July and I just realized that my return flight reaches Singapore on 14.

It slipped my mind that they had put an exact date in the letter because I received 0 notifications or call ups and whatnot despite it being about 7 weeks away. I had the notion that it was gonna be in late July or August which I was fine with. I also read an old thread: Post #11 which had some rule that MUT must notify you 3 months in advance, however I can't find that article online anymore. The new article said something about receiving HK MUT within 2 months, but it's less than 2 months already, but the article also never say anything about what to do if MUT notification is sent without due notice.

What are my options here and what can I do sia? I really have no qualms about serving my 2 weeks and it is an honest mistake that slipped my mind. I emailed ns.sg already and waiting for response but now I really quite gan chiong because I humji af and hopefully some of y'all can have some insight or experience???

Best case: No MUT and everything okay (since EP already approved)
Mid case: New unit CO okay with me reporting for MUT on 14 July (I touch down 9am) and just go through MUT which is okay also
Worse case: Cancel my plans and reschedule flight back and lose all my ****ing money???
Worst case: Somehow get fined 10k and jailed 3 years??? (ok this one quite unlikely)

Also, while we're at this, after I ORD-ed, I have had some kind of medical review that somehow got me down PES-ed. Like, at the interview with the board of MOs, I told them explicitly I don't wanna down PES, but end up downgraded anyway. Questin is how do I up PES again ah? I had some NS medical card that covers my medical bills for the injury I sustained during NS for life but I think I lost it....... Will I still be covered if I go back and schedule a session with the specialist to recommend up PES? Personally I just want the easy IPPT money la since up PES or not (currently pes C something, cannot rmb, but still have to go outfield) I still have to go outfield and do the same thing, just no IPPT and route march, but I arti, no route march anyways.

Thanks ah bros, please help a gan chiong spider in need.

干. My number here like no roaming or something, confirm damn expensive... But good suggestion, I'll do it in 2-3 days if they never reply my email. Thanks!

I think you complain a lot leh. You already said you "a bit gan chiong and didn't want to think too much if not heart pain when spend too much money"

and "quite gan chiong because I humji"

"gan chiong spider in need"

so you know is your fault liao...

so go kp

"lose all my ****ing money???"

"干. My number here like no roaming or something, confirm damn expensive..."

theory of scarcity dude... cannot have everything in the world...

---

About your second question.

Your sustained from service injury? You only lose the card what, doesn't mean you lose the coverage what. You just need to pay for the service injury card replacement lor. If you don't first, I think you gotta pay first and submit the claims.

But if you got downgraded because of service injury, they maybe humji themselves to upgrade you.

even if you decide to waive their liability, I think may also void your service injury card.

Think hard man. I don't think 10 years worth of IPPT money is > medical coverage of that injury for the rest of your life.

Hmm good point eh, thanks for making it into financial terms that I confirm want to put into calculation hahaha. I better ask them soon when I get back to Singapore, already lost 2 years of IPPT. But ya now only have a few quarter life crises so far, still think I'm invincible, but better to have coverage than extra 5k right... Hopefully they can upgrade PES and not void service injury card. (Honestly it was an ankle injury cause we went overseas training then the ground uneven but I had to get out and sprint to do some stuff, end up landed in a pothole 3 times and injured until gao lat but now they don't let me route march or IPPT when these are on even grounds, but still let me go back outfield lol but ok la don't say too much later you say I complain king :s22:) But still, thanks for the reply ya.

Complain lor, but doesn't change the fact that you can't have everything.

the timeframe for the notification to be sent to u in advance are strictly based on this link: https://www.ns.sg/web/portal/nsmen/...-ns-call-ups/notification-and-acknowledgement

so long you have screenshots on the timestamp of your notification not in accordance to the above, you can file a complain regarding their ISO standards.

basically so long u already have a valid EP, u need not worry but is recommended that u email NS Portal so that your Unit S1 is being highlighted on your case.

the grading of your PES are purely based on the judgement of the MOs. U can only live with it if you aren't given the upgrade and thus, not able to take the IPPT incentives. Medical reviews are not interviews, and they do not give grading due to your preference.

lastly, based on what you had described, if you are so indeed fearful, your "mid case" shall be the best case for you to follow.

Hiya! Thanks for the detailed reply! Just wondering though, since I extended the trip, I have to apply for Exit Permit, right? What do I file it under? Since the EP still has to start from Jan, I put it under Study (Overseas) since the bulk of the trip was for my internship, and only the last 1 month ish is for travel. There also isn't an option for travel, closest thing is "Social Visit".

Yeah I don't know why, but my medical review felt like an interview. I was sitting across a panel of MOs and they just asked me the questions and all. Anyways, yeah, I'll just try to upgrade my PES if possible.

And alright, hopefully everything turns out fine. Still waiting for them to reply email, but thanks for the reply! I'm more at ease already, just the initial chua tio feeling hahaha.

not sure on your starting duration (Jan as u mentioned) as the effective date of EP is based on what you have applied for. u can just list it as "Study (Overseas)" which includes your tour around the country.

lastly, do use proper English. doubt u will be having this "language-mixing" when u are studying overseas. dont spoil our country's image =)

thanks.

You should check with NS Hotline to get a definitive answer on how your EP should be classified.

I don't know why you'd think I would speak Singlish in an European country and run the risk of not being understood when they already have to take time to process my non-British accent. This is HWZ and I haven't been using much Singlish for a good part of 5 months, so give chance la, I don't have to use perfect English here what.

However, if you disagree with my point above laid out in Singlish, I humbly apologize, and I would like you to take me on good faith that I indeed, did not "spoil our country's image". That of which, howbeit, you might be dismayed to know that there isn't much of, as there is still a significant population of Europeans whom seem to believe that our homeland is situated in China. To be clear, do note that that was purely an anecdotal experience and does not reflect the entire population of European countries, and I did educate them on the geography and if time permits, the culture and history of Singapore, in order to keep our image pristine, and our reputation untarnished. Lastly, I would like to add that I am not studying overseas, but rather, undergoing a compulsory internship as part of my graduation criteria, so please forgive me if I did let it slip in my Opening Post. You might be pleased, nevertheless, to learn that as part of a project of my internship, I even gave a workshop to an international audience of maybe 30-odd people, and maybe through some form of miracle or divine intervention, they did understand my command and grasp of the English language.

Anyways, I clarified with the correspondent from NS.sg and asked her if filing it under "study" was correct, and she agreed so I think it's resolved. Thanks for the help!

This sort of things, you must understand, it is better to come from a definitive source through official channels than from random strangers on the forum. Official channels are held accountable for what they say, I don't think people here are held accountable for what they say
