Long story short, I recently got an Asus laptop but forgot the log in pin and Microsoft account details. Bitlocker was apparently enabled by default too.

Thus I'm looking to just format the pc.

Due to bitlocker needed to do it via bootable usb. Apparently due to bitlocker you need to wipe the disk before being able to install any new OS.

When I tried to do via cmd on the bootable usb (diskpart > list disk), it only showed my usb drive, did not detect the ssd.

I Then tried doing it via the WinRE from the ssd directly. Cmd Diskpart showed the ssd, and I have successfully wiped it. Now I can no longer boot into windows.

However when I return back to the usb bootable to install windows, the ssd still doesn't show up.

SSsd shows up in bios. I have disabled secure boot.

What am I missing out here?

I think you should rewrite your entire post to keep it concise and to provide better clarity, just try reading what you post.. :ROFLMAO:.

If you wipe your SSD, of course you can't boot to windows.

However when I return back to the usb bootable to install windows, the ssd still doesn't show up.

When you format your SSD, make sure you follow.

Code:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0 (make sure it's the SSD)
clean
convert gpt
exit

There is a chance, but low chance you may need to load a driver to see your SSD.

Sorry for the messy first post. Hopefully this is clearer

I want to format a bitlocker locked laptop. Tried doing it via WinRE but was not able to due to bitlocker. Read online that it can only be done via bootable USB media.

So I tried using the bootable USB media but the installer could not detect my ssd. Read online that bitlocker locked drives need to be wiped first. Tried to do it via CMD on the bootable USB (diskpart > list disk) but it could not detect the ssd.

So I tried to do it via WinRE, it could then detect the SSD and thus I proceed to clean it. The OS is now gone.

However when I try to reinstall windows again, the SSD is still not detected.
CMD diskpart > list disk does not show the drive.

Steps I have taken to trouble shoot
- disable secure boot
- clarified SSD shows up on BIOS

What am i missing here?

Thank you for your reply. I did not do the last part "convert gpt".
The disk now does not show up even when using the bootable media. But is detected in bios

After u clean and convert do this

Code:
select the disk again with select disk
create partition primary
assign letter=C (or whatever letter u wan)
format fs=ntfs quick

Honestly, I think the issue is that you just need to load driver as i stated.

Lastly, I suggest creating the windows installer with rufus because it gives u some option to disable the bde, lets u create an installer that can complete installation without internet and disabling data collection those stuff.

Uhm, so far the win11 installs i done using rufus route seem to work well.
And they're done on non-tpm models too, did not encounter this since ahci drivers are present

What am i missing here?

- For bitlocker drives, you have to USB installation disk.
You will have to do a diskpart using recovery tool.
word-image-4.png

It will prompt you for the Bitlocker key.

- Once you able to access, depending on the laptop model.
You have to download Intel F6 Driver from the manufacturer website
than the drive can be detected.
As some laptop will have Intel RST/RAID driver enabled by default.
You didn't share which laptop model it is so I cannot advice further.
Whether can switch to AHCI or not some laptop can while some cannot.

Quick update. The problem was indeed the IRST drivers. Loaded them and I'm installing windows right now.

Awesome help brother. Can't thank you enough
