Other than the usual spots, if the weather is good I'd recommend a day trip to Okunoshima aka Rabbit Island.

we rented a car & drove to Sandankyo Gorge.
you can take a bus there but we prefer the flexibility of driving.

Thanks. Since I will be staying around 6 nights. Do you recommend any trips outside of Hiroshima/Miyajima? Fukuoka or Kumamoto do-able?
Fukuoka still ok, Kumamoto is abit too far? But i think keep Kyushu as a future trip might be better.

Go around the region like Onomichi, Kurashiki, Okayama, Okunoshima, etc or Shikoku if there is anything of interest to you there.

Yup it is a direct silkair flight. Should be using 737-800 plane as the 737 MAX are still grounded now.

did a 1 day day trip to hiroshima

Just visited the A-bomb dome.. peace memorial and musem... walked around their covered shopping district for about 30 mins...

then went to miyajima island.... its v nice.... something like jiufen except more spacious and less crowded... deers roam about freely... the main tori gate is covered cause under renovation.... the shops there close like at 5.30 or 6... so after that becomes nothing to do there

Tabirai car rental
their office is within walking distance from hiroshima stn
Try to use the online japanese version to book, rate is cheaper as compared to english version
We also try to avoid driving on their highway to save on tolls
