HONG KONG TRAVEL & TRANSPORT
Adi Lau, operations director of the MTR Corporation, said on Saturday that the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link will follow mainland standards. The standards stipulate that the combined dimensions of luggage should be less than 130cm and weigh below 20kg.

Lau said the MTRC reserved space at the ticketing hall of the West Kowloon terminus for the baggage service. She added that the MTRC has been looking for logistics companies to provide the service.

The MTRC later added that there were no limits to the number of baggage items passengers should carry.

i am considering visiting GZ for a couple of nights and taking the new express train...

any idea....

how long is the queue for tickets at the station (both in GZ and HK)? I am not sure if i want to pre buy as i am not sure what time i will reach the station.

and also where is the station in GZ? is it the south railway station in this map next to shibi? or is it at the yellow no.1?

From Kowloon station to China need to go through both HK and China immigration. Logically through customs at the same time

from the info i gather from....

https://www.chinahighlights.com/tra...ngzhou-shenzhen-hongkong-high-speed-train.htm

The station at GK seems to be pretty far from town. it's near the shibi station. then will need to take the metro a few stops.

hotels price pretty decent... but alot comes with one 1 breakfast..... which is strange. think its the norm for china... was looking at this... "romantic room" thingie.... that only comes with 1 breakfast.... hmmmmm... maybe the date leaves in the morning? :s13:

The terminal at Guangzhou is Guangzhou South Station, which is actually in Panyu district, so for those heading to Foshan next, it is convenient. Guangzhou metro lines 2 and 7 meet at this station as well. There are also provincial bus service connections.

I took the HK->SZ Futian route last month. This was a trip on Friday afternoon, so not too busy.

Waited for 2 minutes for ticket collection, then went through ticket and security check, another 2 minutes. Took the escalator down and went through HK customs. Didn't need to queue and there were many counters open. Walked a short distance through no man's land to China customs (air conditioned), had to fill in the yellow entry form, took about 6 minutes for this part.

Since they recommended to arrive 45 minutes earlier than the scheduled time and I had gone through the immigration process in lesser than 10 minutes I had 30 minutes to burn in the waiting area. When your train is boarding they will make 3-4 announcements and the lao aunties at the platform entry gate will also start asking around who is taking the next train.

The train took 13 minutes to reach its destination.

The whole process is staffed by English speaking staff and they were really professional and friendly. I have had a good impression of high speed rail in the mainland previously, I would say that despite being costly compared to the MTR, the high speed rail station at Kowloon is the most comfortable way to get from HK to nearby Chinese cities.

When I got off at Futian it was quite amazing how large the station was. You are in the large underground walkway that is connected to all the nice malls in the Futain area, additionally u can take the green, red or blue line from Futian railway station.

Just a warning for those travelling with disabled/elderly though, the SZ metro stops are about 500-700m from the railway station (maybe I took the wrong route)

same train and station, same experience
except i was stuck at chinese immigration for quite some time so 45min recommended time is good, to buffer for such scenario

I have 1 day free in hk and thought of popping over to China to look. So do you recommend futian or shenzhen? Or somewhere else? Also do we need visa for China? Hk sim cannot be used there right?

Singaporean don't need visa.

HK SIM can be used but considered roaming.

just came back. you should go futian, just one stop after the HK West Kowloon. from there, there are many big and affordable shopping centers.
HK to Futian is 13mins (excluding immigration). about HKD77
