For first timer self drive from Sapporo - Otaru - Hakodate - Nori - Lake Toya and maybe Furano.

It will be more interesting for first timer. Don’t straight away do eastern course. Same idea like when u go Taiwan, go for Taipei first. Seldom people first time go Taiwan visit Hualien first. Going back again then try other routes, more ulu or some say nature and scenery hahaa.

Change hotel. The places are actually rather far from each other. Just managed to hoot ultra cheap scoot tickets to Hokkaido for 5 days in Nov so decided to share my itinerary last year.

My family is clock attractions type hence the packed schedule. You should choose only those you are interested in haha.

To sum up, I think I enjoyed the stay at Lake Toya the most, with the free fireworks. Hell valley was impressive. As for Hotel, must stay in Tokyu Stay Sapporo. I totally enjoy using the washing machine with dryer. Everyday dump in the clothes to wash and dry before sleeping.

Nice itinerary, my upcoming Oct itinerary similar to this as well, but over 10/11 days. I would totally do that if I were to go alone.

Taking the distance/time to travel haha! Saved my time :s13:

Incredibly long drive but it was generally well-paced. Plenty of time to hike and take lots of scenic photos. Frequent rest stops during the longer driving portions. This was in June though (good weather for driving), so YMMV.
