Hong Kong postpones "Avatar 3", drops "Fire and Ash" from title
8 Dec - Just as fans in Hong Kong were anticipating the release of James Cameron's third "Avatar" movie on 17 December, it was revealed that the film release has been postponed.
In a statement released by 20th Century Fox, it said, "In light of the recent tragic events in Tai Po, and out of respect for the Hong Kong community, the release of Avatar 3 originally slated for 17th December will be deferred to 2026. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected."
"A new release date will be announced as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and continued support," it added.
It was also reported that the studio has also removed the official title of "Fire and Ash" from the movie poster, and that it will now be promoted only as "Avatar 3".
Earlier, it was revealed that they have cancelled plans for a premiere event in Sanya, which director Cameron was due to attend.
Back on 26 November, a large fire broke out at the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex in Tai Po, killing at least 159 people and injured 79 others. More than 30 are still unaccounted for.
