Well I own both the 5S and the Note 3 (this is my first Note device - my first smartphones were the HTC Hero followed by the Samsung Galaxy S2, after which I started using iPhones).

The Qualcomm Snapdragons are very impressive microchips, both the 600 and 800 series, and the larger AMOLED screen + active stylus both leverage quite a lot of industrial experience from Samsung and Wacom respectively, so the hardware is pretty impressive on the Note 3.

Ergonomically however, I find that the iPhone's form factor is still much better, and the iPhone still looks like a much better phone aesthetically than Samsung's devices. The Note is also surprisingly heavy, but that is to be expected I guess.

Ecosystem wise, iOS 7 is a considerable shift from iOS 6. It duplicates certain features such as the control centre toggles and multitasking views, but does some things very well - the quick access to the spotlight is much better than Android's IMO, and works better for my use case as I usually search for apps, whereas Android's search seems bad at.

One area I find that the 5S shines is the fingerprint scanner - one of the finest works of engineering I've ever seen.

Overall I think the Note 3 is better if you really like to take Notes, and have a preference for watching lots of videos. Otherwise, as a general phone, the iPhone 5S is better. The split screen gimmicks don't seem terribly useful (for me at least), and I still prefer iOS's lock screen notifications.

I do wish iOS 7 didn't have all the annoying zooming in and out animations though.

Don't worry, just wait for iOS 7.1 to iron out more bugs and hopefully give us an option to disable the animations.

So that makes the current phones larger and larger again, back to when the initial mobile phones were. After that, people want smaller and lighter phones.

In fact did not see 5s and 5c around, apple announce they sell 9 millions phone, but did not see anyone holding the new iphone, none in my office, at least from my observation. One of my colleague hoot Note 3.

thing is...5 & 5S look very similar....unless u keep looking at the person phone... else not that easy to spot

for myself, i used the apple leather case. hardly can tell if its 5 or 5S except looking at the home button...
