One of the first key steps in insurancing would be to get a shieldplan. Most of us should have a basic one known as the medishield. Also, the current policy allows all newborns to be insured with medishield too.

But you might have someone in your family (usually the old ppl) who are not insured. Hence, it is important for you to know how much it might cost if they are warded.

MOH did a wonderful job to provide some data on that. This thread serves two purposes

1. To educate people on the ballpark figures of hospital bill size.
2. To gather feedback on the accuracy of the MOH data -- how wide are the outliers of these medical fees?

By looking at the bill size, it's better to buy cash rider to cover deductible for your integrated shieldplan.

'p' now.

'a' or 'b' when I reach 60 where I had shown graphically how premium curve shoot up at that age. My life then will also be less valuable (in terms of opportunity cost). And most imptly, the projected higher premium to get insured in higher class when one is above 60.

Due to my work nature, I do travel to a few hospitals. I get to see the environment etc. I must say I have to choose somewhere more comfortable if possible. This is my bill for just dengue fever, a 5-day stay.

All the 120-day before and after related treatment costs are included coz they are claimable.

Personal experience with two old folks who were not insured. It cost millions over 20 years. Especially if there are chronic ailments involved. The drug costs are a constant drain. We were looking at medical bills of $1k a month for one person.
