1990-1994 was the heyday of SG national soccer. They won the Malaysia Cup in 1994 and were runners-up in 1990 and 1993.

So no surprises about their "best" WC qualifying performance for 1994 WC.

respectable performance for sure but looking closely, they were actually topping countries from SEA albeit a good home win against Qatar.
the top 6 of this round had to playoff again. only top 2 qualified for WC finals.
not so nearly, just that we have regressed badly since then.
