Huh? Normally, banks don't charge you for cheques unless you:

  1. issue someone a cheque
  2. order a new chequebook

The $2 charge sounds like it might be a fall-below fee instead?

Fairly certain it's not for the cheque, but if it is, you can just call them to ask.

Im also paying $2 monthly to posb for the chequebook.

My family also paying that. After i told her can cancel chequebook and do away with monthly fee, she walked in to posb and get it done a few months ago

Oh now the tnc is like this

https://www.posb.com.sg/personal/deposits/savings-accounts/current-accounts

A monthly S$2 account fee apply

A monthly S$2 fall-below fee apply on your linked POSB Savings Account, if your average daily balance for the month falls below S$1,500

The first cheque book is free. Thereafter, it is S$10 per additional cheque book (50 leaves)

Enjoy waiver on fall-below fee if this is your first account with us and it is opened via online

So i suppose the $2 I'm paying monthly is for the current acc
So once u tell them u no need chequebook they'll close your current acc.

And also for subsequent checkbook it'll b $10

You should be able to follow these steps online and/or through postal mail, without stepping foot in a branch (not a good thing to do anyway):

1. Open a DBS My Account. This savings account has no minimum balance requirement.

2. Move enough dollars into the new account.

3. Shift/re-link all your debit cards from your POSB current account to the new My Account.

4. Send new GIRO forms into any organizations collecting bills from your POSB account to withdraw from the new My Account. Wait for these GIRO forms to process successfully.

5. Check past statements for any other linkages. For example, if you have your CDP account making deposits into this POSB current account, then log onto your CDP account and shift/re-link to the new DBS My Account.

6. Close the POSB current account.

Alternatively you can call DBS/POSB and see if they can shut off the "current" part of the account (make it a savings account) while keeping the same account number, but bear in mind you still might be subject to a minimum balance requirement to avoid a monthly fee. The steps I describe above get you into a new account with no minimum monthly fee.

Most likely yes with the possible exception of discontinued cards. You're welcome to try! The "My Account" requires no minimum to open and no minimum balance. Just open it, then try. (If you decide to close it, wait 6 months.)

I should mention that if you have a PAssion Debit Card then it's possible the Tap for More points won't transfer over if/when you close an account. Just to be safe, spend down any Tap for More Points (at Giant for example) before closing an account.

Which acc from CIMB can b linked to the free chequebook?

Is there any fall below fee for that acc?

CIMB has a savings account, current account & the 1% fastsavers.

The current account comes with free chq book and has no ADB to maintain. I’ve been keeping this account at $0.01 for a few years alrdy.

I think UOB current account also gives free cheque book.
They have a current account which offers two free books (100 checks), but after that they're chargeable. Also, that account has a minimum balance requirement. And UOB is kind of nasty with their debit card fees these days.

Have I got all that correct, or do you see some other offer from UOB?

i believe i got free cheque for my DBS Multi Currency Acct.

In any case, seldom really use cheque nowadays.

mostly need it only for big purchase items like property purchase where lawyers only accepts cheques.

In case some of you not aware, you can also send cheque via DBS internet banking and request it to mail to any individual or organisation.
