How to clean HDMI ports ?

I have a 40inch Samsung LED tv series 5.
I just installed mioTV, and realised out of the 4 HDMI ports, only 1 is working.
rest of the 3 no signals at all.


How do I actually revive or clean those dirty ports so that I can use them again ?

get a HDMI switch or hub. Some soundbars or HT systems also come with a few extra ports. No point cleaning/repairing. If all the ports game over then most likely time to change your tv

You may wish to try contact cleaner (also called switch cleaner). It is in the form of an aerosol spray can (~$10). This is different from rust remover such as WD40. Make sure you don't get the wrong type. Should be able to get from neighbourhood hardware shops or DIY shops such as Home Fix.

Spray directly into the hdmi ports a few times, after that use your hdmi cable connector to plug in and out a few times to dislodged the accumulated dust and oxidation. Wipe dry.

Hopefully, some or all of your hdmi may be back to normal.

sometimes its not no signal, its due to the problematic HDCP authentication failure.

An alternative is to ask singtel to give u the older set top box with component input, also can be HD and no HDCP problem.

If dirt/oxidation is the cause of the issue, the component input of the tv set is likely to face the same issue of the hdmi ports - still need the contact/switch cleaner for the component input.

Here is one more option which worked for me recently.

My tv set, which happens to be a Samsung Series 5 40", has a Sony DVD recorder's hdmi output connected to the tv hdmi1. The Draco stb which I bought was connected to hdmi2, but it was either greyed out or no signal (can't remember exactly what happened now). I tried hdmi3 and 4. All were not succesfull.

At that time I have forgotten about my switch cleaner which had been kept in the store room for a long time. I decided to connect Draco to hdmi1 and change the DVD recorder connection to hdmi2. And bingo, all worked. I left them as they were since then.
