Sorry for troubling you guys...

My dad bought the RT-AC88U Asus router at the PC show today, $380 plus a free gaming mouse.

Tried setting up for him but to no avail... the WAN indicator is always red.... and i have no idea if i plugged in the correct place. Singtel has 2 boxes... 1 is the modem and the ONT....

Where should i plug the WAN cable to ?

At the ethernet port or the local ethernet port? Or at the ONT box?

PS: Read the menu and researched online for 3 hours and i still can't it to work :(.

May I ask is ur connection like this :
ONT-> singtel router -> Asus ac88u?
Or
ONT -> singtel router (port 1) and Asus router (port 2)

If it's the 1st one u have to set Asus as the bridge and then u connect singtel whichever output to Asus wan aft u finish setting up.

But if it's the 2nd one, den u are heavy mistaken it will not work that way, since singtel has already preconfigured certain vlan for certain ports

Anyway I assume that it singtel router blue wire is for Asus, den u have to remove the cable at the singtel router and connect it to your pc Nd hit 192.168.1.254 on your browser.

But from what the salesman told me... any router would work.. He also recommended us to get the Linksys router... Original price was at $299... but with the singtel plan it was reduced to $229. In the end my dad decided to buy the better one (ASUS)..

The yellow cable on the extreme right of the ONT box links to the ethernet on the singtel broadband modem. I think after all.. the blue cable might do the trick HAHAH!

Actually i have no idea.... My dad just bought that thing and told me to fix it so that the Wi-Fi coverage would be wider or something. Currently my fibre plan is 500mbps but has been upgraded to 1Gbps ( This might take a couple of business days). So the singtel salesman told me to get a router as the current singtel modem that i have can only reach out to a minimum of 300mbps instead of the maximum... 500mbps or soon... 1Gbps..

Oh.. i researched on how to connect the modem to the router... apparently, it's so easy to do on the video... like the modem has only 1 port... so once you plug the WAN port from the router and connect to the modem.. it's done...

While on my side... it isn't the case :(

(So am i extending the access point? )

Stuck at part B

Ok 1st thing 1st before I jump to the setup.

1) I'm not mad or angry(even though my words have proven so) It's just that everything you wanna do is kinda confusing to me and others as well since u have not stated clearly what kind of help u needed from us, so that we can help u.

2) Even though what the salesman says might sound abit unconvinced, but he is right about coverage but wrong about the speed, as such speed is only applies to lan cable connections not WiFi. (max around 200mbps if ur device is AC wifi)

Sorry for the confusion... I am confused too... I understand about the wi-fi coverage and that LAN cable is not affected in any way. So technically, am i still able to use the ASUS router? Or is it redundant?

Ok so here is what I did reco is that u replace that singtel router with the Asus, since have another TP link router, unless u are staying in big flats where even 2 routers is not enough, we can do the 1st connection method.

Ok when u replace just make sure whichever wires that is on the singtel router u plug in to the same port in Asus.

So i'll just replace the wires on the Singtel router to ASUS router at the exact same port. I'll try that!

If it really redundant den u can go sell to others,but I'm not sure if ur current singtel router able to support 1Gbps well or not, next is that u can check by looking at the sticker on the singtel router indicate Aztech which version. If it's 7009 u can still use it for 1Gbps, just the speed isn't that too optimize. Whereas if it 7003 den forget about it and swap to Asus router.

From the picture, I'm guessing you have the Aztech 7003. What's the other box that's behind it?

One thing you can do, don't put the router in such an enclosed area. If you are intending to replace the Aztech 7003 with your ASUS AC88U, Put it outside of that cabinet or something. Preferably higher and not so close to any other electronic devices.

As ZrE0_Cha0s has mentioned, figure out how you want it connected.

1) ONT -> Aztech 7003 -> ASUS AC88U or
2) ONT -> ASUS AC88U.

Once that is decided, then it will be easier to advise you XD

your information is really scattered and confusing. luckily you bought the asus router, if not any other brands may not support singtel 1gbps home fibre.

look at the old aztech router and note the cable plugged into "internet". now take this cable and plug into wan of ac88u and its now settled. whatever cables connected to "local internet" on aztech can be plugged into port 1-8 of your ac88u.

now, turn on the router and you will realise the WAN is red, cos you haven't set up the router yet. after setting up the password for the router admin menu, you will be prompt to set up the wireless details. once everything is up, navigate to the left and select LAN. under iptv option, choose singtel-others profile. click save and reboot the router.

after the reboot, the router should now work. do note that under this iptv profile, singtel tv must connect to port 4 and port 4 is strictly restricted to singtel tv. computer connected to port 4 will not work.

if you have no singtel tv, leave port 4 alone and you may connect port 5-8 for computers usage.
