How to find a reliable contractor for bathroom renovation

Recently we decided to dismantle and renovate the whole common bathroom. Without any recommendations from friends, we simply walk into some random renovation firms in the mall and ask for a quotation. The IDs charge differently, but price range is basically around $10k. We feel it is a bit high for a pretty small bathroom. We are told that contractors would charge less but the problem is where to find them? Without a showroom, how can I be assured of their quality of work? I am puzzled if it is a wiser move to engage a contractor than an ID in our case. Any advice is welcome!

This is the rough quote I got when I want to renovate my master bedroom toilet too.

1. The door is with door frame.
2. The cabinet need to remove old and customise. Can’t remember the size. Standard size.
3. The existing glass wall bathroom area need to proper dispose and replace. Swing door expensive lah. The hinges 1 pairs already cost $200.
4. Waterproofing they say is the most troublesome leh.

I find it too ex. Just bear with it and use lah, then sell. Won’t die.

It’s around 5 to 10k. U can lower cost by choosing cheaper tiles, cheaper toilet bowl and taps, don’t conceal or box up your pipes, use shower curtain etc.

I did mine 3yrs ago 3kplus for one master room bathroom, hack floor and wall, replace wc, basin, everything, new water pipes. then after months realize the ID is scam. No wonder so cheap price. Luckily the works done by subcon is good.
Need to be careful ul if price quoted is too low.

Are you saying the subcon did good work at 3k+? you are lucky. But how did you find out the ID is scam ?

I did mine 3yrs ago 3kplus for one master room bathroom, hack floor and wall, replace wc, basin, everything, new water pipes. then after months realize the ID is scam. No wonder so cheap price. Luckily the works done by subcon is good.

10k is roughly the standard price.
contractor cheaper but of course riskier lah

but sounds like basically you cannot afford to renovate your toilet.
either save up more, or change less things.

Are you saying the subcon did good work at 3k+? you are lucky. But how did you find out the ID is scam ?

3k plus paid to the ID. I realize it after a year when my neighbour asked me for the contact then I Google it and saw the news.
