Thanks for the additional info!

Just fixed up my Sony Bluray HT system and confirmed that it has standby passthrough.

Will be going down to Sim Lim next Monday to fix up my HTPC and will flash my SSD with a fresh Win8.1 over the weekend.

To have DTS-HD or DD True HD surround when using HTPC (not playing thru bluray player/disc), all the following must meet.

1) connect htpc to AV receiver with hdmi cable
(on-board - intel HD graphic LGA1156 platform onward using XBMC)
(Nvidia - 400 series onward using XBMC)
(AMD - 5000 series onward using XBMC)

2) AV receiver support DTS-HD and DD True HD

3) HTPC install with media player that support DTS-HD or DD True HD (ex. XBMC)

4) The source (video file) have DTS-HD and DD True HD audio format

Do correct me if wrong. So far no problem using XBMC version 11 to play.

Actually the ability to pass Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS lies with XBMC. So you only need to make sure either HDMI or a optical spdif out are presents on your motherboard. XBMC should take care the rest though configurations is not trivial.

Don't think you need DD5.1 compliant hardware because you are basically doing a bitstream passthrough & let your receiver do the decoding anyway....

ok guys, after some procastination, finally got the spare cash to fix up my HTPC. will be going down to SLS in a while.

Just a last min qns, which H81 ITX board is preferred?

MSI H81I or Asrock H81M-ITX?

Few months back, many guys were recommending MSI boards, but recently, Asrock seems to be the preferred board.

Is there anything that I should be aware of when purchasing MSI board?

My preference is MSI board as it has more ports and 4K UHD support.

Asrock is cheaper, that's all. Get MSI if you like. ☺

thanks bro!

i realised that too, after trailing to the source of the cable. It's the USB3 connector for my front USB3 ports.

anyway, i got myself a Asrock H81M-ITX in the end, as Tradepac did not have any MSI H81I. Kinda regretted getting this mobo, as it does not have any extra USB3 connector on board, and that rendered my 2 front USB ports useless.

The only saving grace is the Asrock Fast Boot, it's amazingly fast!

thanks bro. is there anyway I can use my front USB3 ports with this Asrock H81M-itx mobo?

hehe no harm asking.
Buy an internal USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 converter. Your front panels will only be at USB 2.0 speeds, though.
