IMO the Asus ROG Phone 2 specs is slightly better except for the cameras

I believe the P40 also uses the UFS 3.0 storage and LPDDR4X RAM which are the same as in ROG Phone 2. The newer and faster LPDDR5X RAM is still too expensive to be used at the moment

Samsung's 1st Gen 108MP camera sensor is now being used in the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 phone. Rumored that upcoming Samsung's S11 will have the 2nd Gen 108MP camera sensor

Given that China is a huge market for Google and to compete with Huawei App Gallery, it is likely that Google will create a simple workaround for Huawei hand phone users to download and use Google apps and services independently.

The cameras of the P40 Pro alone should make it a worthwhile purchase if one is into photography with a smart phone.

Nope. Both Google and Huawei will have to follow the law in US. So Google and Huawei can not do that.

That does not stop 3rd party hackers from doing it though.

BTW, China is not a big market for Google now but it can be a potential big one.

I am in China now. Baidu search engine is crap compared to Google. Baidu Map is okay. Youku/Tencent Video/iQiyi can compete with YouTube at least for Chinese Entertainment contents.

In the end I still need to use VPN/SS/V2Ray to access Google/Gmail and WhatsApp/Facebook.

Yes, without GMS then the P40 series will be just for a niche in the non-China market, just like Mate 30 series. Probably for people who need a secondary phone with good camera, for techie people who want to play with the phone (eg: install GMS), etc.

No doubt P40 series can do well in China, same as Mate 30 series. I am in a small town in Fujian China now and there are so many Huawei users here. Oppo and Vivo are traditionally strong in this small town and they are still strong. But one of the biggest Oppo shop now becomes Huawei shop (same boss, same company, just change from Oppo to Huawei).

People in China use Baidu Map百度地图 and 高德地图.

Huawei is said to be developing HMS based map app but not yet ready.
