I have a mid 2010 iMac. Recent I feel that it running abit slow than previously. Does upgrading it with a SSD improves it performance? I dun use it for games nor video editing already. Just using it to surf the net and some word processing and do some presentation for my works. Its abit pity to throw and change a new iMac.

1 more question is can I just add on another ssd while retaining my originally fitted HDD or i have to take out HDD and replace it with HDD? TiA

easiest and cheapest method is to install the OS on an external SSD. that's what I'm doing now to my 2014.
once u change to ssd Easily Five to Ten Times Faster than your old hdd
think my Mac can run another 5 yrs before breaking down

Yes. Just change to SSD. Lots of tutorial videos on YouTube.

Get a Samsung T5 External SSD. Stick it on the aluminium stand behind with 3M Command or some adhesive. Permanently plug it in via USB A.

Install Mac OS on that External SSD. You can still use your internal HDD as a backup storage/time machine device.

Mid 2011 iMac still going strong. just swop out HDD to SSD

Same. It basically got a new breath of life after making the $180 SSD upgrade.

Now I’m trying to use the iMac as a secondary screen for my office laptop (since WFH). Was using a Griffin thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, but I could not get it to work. Is it cos the adapters are not bi-connection? As in.. the adapters are meant for thunderbolt (laptop) to HDMI (TV)? And not the other way round HDMI (laptop) to thunderbolt (Imac).

I think some converters can only pass signal from Mini DisplayPort to HDMI port. It is not a bi-directional cable.
