Hi people,
I have to file my income tax. Just want to check with you all, whether the employement expenses can include expenses incurred in travelling to work by bus/mrt/cab. I probably spend ~1K taking bus/mrt/cab to work every year. can this be considered as employment expense? what kind of proof is required for this incase of verification.

Thank you.

EMPLOYMENT EXPENSES

You may claim expenses incurred for official duties which were not reimbursed by your employer. For example, travelling expenses (other than expenses incurred on motor cars), entertainment expenses, subscriptions paid to professional bodies, zakat fitrah and mosque building fund (other than those deducted through your salary if your employer is in the Auto-Inclusion Scheme for Employment Income).
Please maintain a schedule of the actual expenses incurred stating the nature of expense, purpose of incurring the expense, date and amount incurred. Please retain all receipts for verification purposes. Estimates are not acceptable.

Traveling to and from work is not official duty, cannot claim. It is stated in your link too under examples of wrongful claims.

krazyman is correct. Commuting to and from work is not considered part of the production of your employment income.
