1. I wish to contest 2 infractions moderators of the Eat-Drink-Man-Woman sub forum issued me. The issuance of these infractions are inconsistent with the typical moderation of the sub forum and should be revoked .

2. The first infraction was issued to a thread I started (please refer to http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/75803890-post1.html), with the reason that it was a "Forum Nuisance (trolling, impersonation, troublemaker, clone accounts (sic)".

_____a. It is ludicrous to deem the aforementioned thread as such when 359 posts were made in this thread and it garnered 464 likes, showing not only active participation but widespread acceptance of the topic I started.

_____b. EDMW is also described as "a hang-out place to relax and chit-chat about food and boy-girl stuff (sic)", which my thread is relevant to. While other threads like politics, technical hardware questions and academic issues are tolerated despite having other relevant sub forums, my thread which is, was deemd to be a "nuisance" thread. This is highly inconsistent with what the forum was designed to be.

_____c. If the moderator in anyway feels that threads should not target any specific user in mind, I am obliged to point out that many of such threads were and are continuing to be tolerated.

_____d. The fact that the thread was not locked or closed further contradicts the baseless accusation that the thread is a nuisance (sic).

3. I also contend the infraction issued to the post (http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/76253207-post23.html), issued presumably on the basis of the last three words of the post.

_____a. The use of allusions of vulgarities is prevalent, tolerated and condoned by the moderators of the sub forum. The issuance of infractions to the use of such allusions cannot be a selective process. If the administrators disagree, I am willing to point our a huge number of such posts and expect all of them to be issued infractions as well.

_____b. The use of allusions to vulgarities was never explicitly made known to be prohibited in the forum and users cannot be expected to abide by this.

4. While I am cognizant of the difficulties in enforcing rules especially as moderators are not expected to read all posts in the forum, the application of rules cannot be arbitrary and inconsistent should moderators come across these posts. Notwithstanding my recognition that moderators may not come across all posts, similar behaviour cannot be condoned at times and penalized at other times at the whims of moderators.

5. As a previous paying member of the forum, I expect a fair resolution to my request and an acceptable explanation in the unlikely event that the administrators do not occur with my views. Doing otherwise will undermine the confidence of paying members in the management of the forum and disincentivize potential membership.

I would also like to highlight that I have been noticing the enforcement getting stricter and stricter. While I acknowledge the difficulties in enforcing the rules and regulation in EDMW, I realised that a lot of posts that are said half-in-jest are been given warning. Ironically, EDMW is described as a place to hang out and talk about boy girl stuff.

As a long time member, I certainly hope that the moderators can differentiate what are the posts that really warrants a warning or infraction and those that are said in a joking manner that poses no threat and should not be given any warnings.

Let's see what the moderators have to say. :X

Dear Member,

Creating a thread to discuss the parental status of a fellow forumer, while highlighting the age of the member and the number of children, creates unnecessary attention and gossip about the individual.

If you are interested to confirm rumours, you can easily do so by sending the individual a private message.

If there are similar threads that target other members, feel free to report this to the moderating team and we will take action against the thread starter.

We apologise for the inconsistency in the moderating of the thread and have closed it with immediate effect. chompchomp 23yo 3 kids liao? - www.hardwarezone.com.sg

As for the second infraction, use of abusive language is not condoned in HardwareZone. Please feel free to point out the posts whereby the contents are identical
to the language you have used.

I'm disappointed that

1. side stepped the issue by selective addressing the points that I have pointed out (and only choosing to justify the infractions based on the points I have brought out that you felt you could attempt to address)

2. I have not heard back from your team about the possibility that a particular moderator has issued these infractions to me due to personal grievances unrelated to my behaviour in this forum. I have pointed this out to another staff.

On your reply
1. Creating attention and gossip, which you deem "unnecessary" on another user is not an offence in this forum. Please point out under which section of the member terms and conditions this falls under.

2. The affected user herself has already stated that she did not report the incident; by deeming the thread as casting "unnecessary" attention is not only presumptuous but extremely arrogant and rude of you to dictate what others should feel about attention towards themselves.

3. There are so many "fanclub" threads that moderators have participated in, that has highlighted many details of high profile members. I do not need to report these threads as they are very obvious to the moderating team and more importantly, they do NOT contravene any member terms and conditions that I am aware of.

4. Your closing of the thread is a poor attempt to justify the indefensible action and speaks volumes of the quality of moderation exercised then. It is painfully obvious to the neutral that the moderator's focus was to issue infractions instead of maintaining order in the forum.

5. You have intentionally and regrettably failed to address my other points on both infractions brought up previously.

6. Please provide me with the email of your supervisor.

I really hope that the grapevine accusations that a particular moderator is behind all these and using his responsibilities for personal vendetta is not true.

I have YET to hear back from the staff on this.
