I've been in Delhi in Oct and the mornings start off really pleasant. After noon the heat got unbearable for me. I've never drank so much water or eaten so much ice cream in a day.

i solo-ed ladakh and signed up for 2x 2d1n tours there. other days I just went to wherever the other people in the guesthouse recommended via public transport.

for delhi, I got recommendations from a shop owner who used to work there and just went around with a free map I picked up at the airport. didn't have much trouble navigating around after I stupidly lost the map surprisingly.

lots of tour agencies in delhi offer the standard golden triangle tour. you could just sign up there if you have no schedule I guess?

Delhi is a short flight away from Amritsar, where The Golden Temple is. The Golden Temple and Taj Mahal are the top 2 buildings in India to visit.

From Amritsar, you can also visit the Wagah Border (border with Pakistan), where a very elaborate flag lowering ceremony is held every day with soldiers from both countries trying to outdo each other in pomp and energy as they carry out their proceedings.

Also near Delhi (about same distance as Agra) is Jaipur, the Pink City, located in Rajasthan. Jaipur has a very different feel from Delhi. Much more traditional and colourful, like being in an Indiana Jones movie.

India is colorful, noisy, chaotic, and in some places, dirty and smelly. It's all part of the experience. You might have a bit of culture shock, but once you get over it, the trip is something you are unlikely to ever forget.

Didja go anywhere othe than delhi? Seems like sept gd time then

Travelled to india solo last year during mid oct to start of nov. delhi > agra > jaipur > jodhpur > jaisalmer > pushkar > delhi

Took SQ @ $620 round trip. quite a good deal i think.

I would say during oct > nov is the best period to travel. manage to fit diwali in jaipur while i am in india. best experience ever!!! its like fireworks from the whole city for 3 days straight non stop!! lol

i manage to be in pushkar for the anually pushkar camel fair. the amount of livestock and dust , you cannot imagine how special it is. the camel fair is when all the camel herders from the whole country will travel to the one location in pushkar , and start trading bidding and purchasing the best camels or livestocks avaliable.

for the whole trip, its all self planned, travelled by train (which is good and cheap) , bus(bad experience for me). food wise, i have fallen in love with paneer masala! stayed in hostel, my recommendation, go for zostel, you wont go wrong.

india, totally incredible. Will go again!! =D you should go too!
