Will it be overkill to get 1 as a regular post & shoot camera for photos and video taking?

Insta360 Ace pro ( like the competitors DJI Osmo Action 4, GoPro 12 ) are ruggedly built action cameras and good esp for sports and action videos and waterproof to a certain depth, can tahan elements and knocks and falls. Digital stabilisation is sophisticated though involves video cropping.

But image quality wise I believe the gimbal stabilized Osmo Pocket 3 with their larger 1 inch sensor is better. However it is mechanically more delicate and NOT going to withstand rough handling and rain, does not stabilize the Z axis and needs technique and probably some post editing.

If there is no need for rough handling I would just get the Pocket 3. ( If getting one remember to buy screen protectors )

If only for casual use, just stick with phone
If regularly taking video, rugged handling and weather proofing > ace pro / action 4
If regularly taking video, best quality , don't mind delicate device > pocket 3
