Install SSD and increase RAM - Need help

Just an update.

Went to 4th floor INFINITY shop as recommended here. But they asked me to go to PC clinic just diagonally across. Not sure if it is their too.

Anyway just replaced the HDD to 128GB SSD ($85 SSD + $40 service charge per laptop) as I already had 16 GB RAM and additional RAM was too expensive. Windows and drivers were already installed by them. Now my old laptop is back to life!

Iam not good at computers.

I have the following laptop running on Windows 10 (upgraded from vista to windows 7 to windows 8 to windows 10; and I don't have the keys for windows 10 or don't know how to get it):

1. Dell Inspiron 15 (3537) bought in Dec 2013
2. Dell XPS 1640 bought in Sep 2009

Both are very very slow even for internet browsing when the hard drive is empty. Reformating the laptop did not help. I heard that replacing the HDD by SSD and by bumping up the RAM, both the laptop can be brought back to life. I will use the laptops as desktop replacement and only for browsing, ms office, viewing photos and videos.

Question:
1. Will changing to SSD and upgrading RAM will help for my intended use? Is it even recommend?
2. If yes what will be the estimated cost and recommend a person or shop to do this.

Yes, by changing to SSD n additional ram (assuming there are free slots still, depending on your current ram configuration) will help in speed, esp in start up and in overall general speed. Can expect the laptops to "jog" but not "flying speed".

You can do it yourself as most laptops would easily allow user to open and swop out the hardisk and rams.

Cost would be at least around S$200 per laptop offhand for a 120G SSD plus ram.

no need that much. 2nd hand 4gb ddr3 sodimms are very cheap, just make sure u get DDR3L 1.35v version for the inspiron 15. maybe 100 total per laptop if going 128gb ssd. closer to 200 if going 256gb.

Do you know any any shop that would do it or any freelancer who could help me for a payment? Because I don't know what SSD to buy, how to fix, how to load windows 10, etc.

Well u can go down to sls to the shop u buying the SSD and check with them if they can help u with a small fees for the service.

I think can find shop like PC Theme, infinity SG to help u.

Go to Infinity 4th floor in front of lift. Prices are not the cheapest but they are more service oriented. IMO this is more impt than prices.

Ask to get both ram and ssd from convergent stock. Easy to RMA if stuff happens...

They will fix on the spot if you are buying from them. You will need to use your own Windows though

Estimated wait time is about 2-4h till both lappies are fixed to the top with updated windows drivers.

remember to reinstall your windows OS if possible. you would see some noticeable speed gains

Yup by cloning
