ssd have 3 thickness. 9mm 7mm and 5mm. go find out how thick is your current harddrive and choose the correct size. note that some manufacturer give u free adapter so 7mm can become 9mm thickness. but 9mm cant become 7mm

depends on the reason for the crash. if the problem lies with your harddisk then yes of course changing it to ssd will solve.

ssd memory just pretend it is SD card high speed

120gb less than $120
240gb $160 cheapest

is there a cheaper SSD out there as my laptop motherboard only has sata 3GB/s speeds only... not much point in getting sata 6GB speed one as it will not be fully maximized...

Nope, virtually all SSDs out there are SATA III nowadays. I have m500 running on a SATA II laptop but it seems to work just fine. In daily use I doubt you will notice much of a difference :)

SATA2 is rare cos SSD potential limit is 6gbps or higher (PCI-E). just get a SATA 3 one for futureproof

where is cheaper and good place to get SSD for laptop?

Most SSD will fit inside laptop given that it's 2.5 form factor. So the question is where to buy one. Typical answer, SLS. Do research before you head down.

IS there any BIOS or other settings to change before installing SSD to run parallel with old HDD?

A few days after I installed SSD with WindowsXP (old school), the HDD partitions with past contents, starts. to fail one after another. (unreadable but recoverable).

Error message appears as:
Windows Delayed Write Failed: 'windows was unable to save all the data for the file D:\. The data has been lost, This error may be caused by a failure of our computer hardware or network connection. Plsase try to save this file elewhere.'
Both disk are SATA2 and in NTFS format.

Any sexperts can advise?

(my bad if this thread is purely apple users only)

TS, do these 2 things first:
1. download memtest86 and check if memory cause the crash
2. open up your laptop and check the hard disk thickness

Once all is clear, you can head down to SLS to hoot SSD.
Value for money is Crucial MX100 256GB at $152 @Tradepac
