I recently purchased a laptop from the IT show. it has a 128gb ssd and 1tb hd. I noticed that the OS is only windows 10 home and is currently installed in the 128gb ssd. if i install ms office and other programs, it will look for the program files, and that 128gb ssd is not enough. my question now is, if i reformat the laptop and chose the 1tb as installation directory of windows and other programs, will the system still benefit from the 128gb ssd? i don't understand why the OS is pre-installed in a smaller drive despite of the fact that the other to be installed programs will also look for the program files directory of a windows OS

the os is pre-installed in the faster drive, which is the ssd. anyway 128gb is a lot for windows 10 + essential softwares.

you can choose to install your other programs onto any drive you know... so far, i have never encounter any software forcing you to only install in programs file folder only...

SSD is 10x faster than your HDD. So softwares and OS is better install into ssd for faster cold boot. I believe your ssd is filling up fast when you download stuff and leave them at the Desktop or Download folders as these places eat up C: drive. Push them to your D: drive to free up space. Leave only softwares into C: drive. If you want, you can set your Steam installation folder into D: drive. It will not complicate the system don't worry. Just a bit slower during loading when programs or games run from the HDD

It don't work as simply as this. Your processor is fast, but if it is bottlenecked by the hdd transfer speed, your loading will still be long. It's like having a big mouth (cpu) but small throat (hdd). You can chew a lot very fast, but you can't swallow that much and that fast.

I wun repeat what others have said. If u scared that ur SSD no space, then just install other apps on ur regular HDD. Put all your docs in your regular HDDs too.

That being said, 128G is big enuf for ur windows and most apps.

If you want to save SSD space, only install stuff that you regularly use or load like OS into SSD.

Other stuff like your picture, movie, files, porn into HDD.
