Intel Over Zealous With Devil Canyon??

There is quite a lot of buzz about the overclockability of 4790K given the better TIM, oc capacitors for the CPU. Lots of marketing showing it hitting over 5GHz as well.....

Unfortunately, both hardocp and pcperspective review the CPU and show that it managed just 4.7GHz. Apparently 5GHz is no go. Of course, this is just based on the ES chip. Hopefully retail ones can get higher (though I doubt so). I am also not sure if 1.36V is a good choice for 24/7 usage since it will cause the CPU to degrade over time.

Perhaps marketing is the cause here. Since it appears to show that DC is indeed an improved version of the original Haswell and TIM and capacitors are supposed to help with oc....

devil canon to me is just a big fairy canon.

dc is supposed to be what Haswell should have been. better tim and caps are not technological advances at all. just a marketing ploy. plain and simple.

But do you feel TIM and caps should at least improve OC? Now its like it made no difference other than lower temps at the same clockspeed. But the lower temp did not allow for higher clocks.

Haha, i felt is a bit over zealous, nothing new for amd fx8350 or 9590 users... But what i think is that many here just wanna see the magic number "5" which i personally felt intel will take a longer time to do so.

As for for ocing over 1.3v? I dont think its recommendable for prolong usage. Over time the chips need to go for more voltages to sustain the chip oc capability. Which will faster reduce the lifespan of the chip.

We already knew DC wouldn't be impressive what, just clock bumps at stock like HaswellF5 - that's it. You really think Intel gives a rat's arse about the OC community?
