iPhone 4s restore error -1

Background:

- Phone has always been used with Singtel sim card.
- Recently changed phone, sim card deactivated but remained in phone.
- Morning erase-reset, activate, success.
- Evening switch on, swap to M1 sim card, saw top left indicator change to M1.
- Prompted to update carrier settings. Done.
- Erase-reset again.
- Failed to activate. Error says activation server unavailable.
- Tried for an hour including plugging to PC activate with iTunes. Unsuccessful.
- Search online and learnt about DFU restore. Tried with iTunes downloaded firmware plus also manually download IPSW and different versions somemore. All unsuccessful with the same error -1.
- Read that error -1 is baseband chip corrupted. I wonder why out of a sudden.


Now the 4s is in vegetative mode... forever displaying a 30pin pointing to iTunes logo. So.... is it worth any further effort trying to revive it, like sending in to A.Lab or QCD (cost cost cost...)? Is it still a software correctable fault or really hardware chip itself gg liao?

No point sending the 4s for repair, it's an antique phone. Get a new iPhone.

If it's software correctable and gonna cost like not more than $50, I might be keen to do so. Can pass to my MIL to replace her Nokia candybar as the battery is going wonkers and so the 4s serves as a very decent replacement... screen big enough to see better yet not oversized (she only uses it to call and read sms). It was actually meant for my helper after she dropped her Ace 2 and it KOed. But too bad the 4s also KOed while trying to set it up ...

She just bought a J1 Ace. I myself also jawdrop... can actually get such a decent Android for just $135... even bigger screen than my phone! I'm still using iPhone 5. The 4s belongs to my sister. She recently changed to 6s plus.
