iPhone 6s mail app help

Hi, my email accounts synced to mail app. If i open mail app and load, new mail will come in. But otherwise there's no notification. Anyone advise? Thanks!

You're receiving notifications only when you open the App because your mailbox doesn't support Exchange ActiveSync. Therefore, your mails are set to fetch periodically.

So what happens is that at a set interval, your phone will query your mailbox to see if there are new messages.

What email provider are you using?
You're recommended to use their Applications instead.

Hi, thanks for your reply. It doesn't fetch at all in the background. I'm using hotmail.

im using hotmail with stock mail app and i get instant push notifications on iOS 9.3.5. For gmail it's pull with the interval you set. You may want to check your notifications settings. By default the notifications are set to off.
