Why do telcos insist on activating the phone for you when you purchase the phone from them?

my dad bought a phone from me from nubox and he did not let them activate the phone. Do i need to go back to nubox to get them to activate for me?

No need, activation is done by yourself.

Telcos do it, because they can't entertain 1 to 1 exchange even if it's faulty when you open up the box, so they have to make you check on the spot, make sure it's working fine and then if anything wrong you go back to Apple themselves.

you mean they want to check that the hardware everything is working fine?

because i bought a iphone for my gf during the singtel launch event and the singtel guy said he needs to insert the sim inside and activate the phone for me and it seems like he wanted to install some singtel software into the phone instead of checking that the phone is working fine.

Yeah, they need to ensure that the phone is working fine, not dead or faulty immediately when you open the box.

Honestly, If you as a customer deny them to open and say its for a gift! They cant force you

actually, they can. they would rather not earn your money than to argue with you instead.

alternatively, telco online store will ship you the sealed set if you insist having a sealed set right from the start..

Lol so you're saying SingTel can refuse to sell because you don want to open the box? And even after insisting you don't want it to be opened? Wow this would open up a beautiful lawsuit against them

Ive had my fair share of buying phones at their hello outlet, when i insist of not opening they are ok with it.

Simply because they can refuse to sell to you

The lawsuit will fail because there are no contract in the first place if they refuse to sell
