Haven’t visited Kyoto all my life. Wanted to find a good period to travel to Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo that isn’t too cold and crowded. Have my itinerary all planned out. Planning to go Minoh Park, Lake Biwa as well

Will be going there in May 2026 with my father.
Biwako is quite huge. Which area are you heading to? Otsu from Kyoto is the closest.

Yup, you're right. will also take a 60 mins ferry around the lake. That being said, It all depends if my father wants to hang around that area.

As for MInoh park, i plan to stay a night at Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Minoh Kankō Hotel if i can book a room

Oh Michigan cruise? Just watch out for bad weather.

We didn’t manage to catch the cruise to Chikubu Island on the two nights we stayed at Nagahama. High winds. Walked all the way from the accommodation to ticket office, then the staff told us not sailing whole day. They reminded us to check the website for the following day, but it slipped my mind. Okay lah, just treated it as a walking exercise.

Thanks for the tip. That’s why i’m looking at early to mid May 26 to avoid raining season at the end of the month.

There wasn’t any rain. Cloudy. It was simply too windy on both days. Safety first. Hope to come back again to complete my visit to some temples in Shiga.

Do they stop running ferries when it’s cloudy? In that case, maybe i will only get 1/2 days before the travelling to Lake Biwa

No. Only if it’s very windy, doesn’t really matter whether it was raining as told by the staff. We visited in mid November.

“10.Cruises during Stormy Weather
Cruises operate during rainy weather, but may be modified or cancelled during storms with strong winds and high waves.

May the weather be always in your favor.

Typhoon season in Kansai is from may to October. Usually unpredictable and happens with very little notice. Good to be flexible on your planning.
