The price is relatively cheap compared to Samsung

Is it too good to be true?
Depends on model. Whether it has cache, and what's the performance level like.

HW Clinic has threads on it. Why post in EDMW? Here you just get "pay a bit more" culture nia. :s13:

They are not bad, I used them for dumb ideas built like 8 SSDs in raid 0 configuration because it's cheap.

If you compare benchmark, lose out. But if everyday use, will not feel the different.
Simple enough for you?

Depend on model example P3 are cheap but they are DRAMLess.
For heavy file transfer etc. heavy usuage DRAMLess SSD will be slower
than SSD with DRAM.
Anyway if you are looking for cheap SSD you can consider Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB around $8X.

But that is if you can find one.

Crucial makes different types. From sata based mx500s to dramless qlc to tlc with dram. Which one in particular are you looking at?

Since you mentioned "cheap", I'm asuming it's the p3 since it goes on sale regularly. The reason it is so much cheaper than samsung is mainly because of 3 things. P3 is qlc while samsung are all (except its sata series) faster tlc flash nand. QLC nand has a shorter rated lifespan than TLC - 220TBW for 1tb vs 600TBW for 1tb. Finally, P3 has no dram while most of samsung's M.2 ones have dram, dram is faster than HMB.

Unless you are frequently transferring large files or doing productivity work, even a P3 will suffice. Samsung also has a cheaper M.2 NVME in the form of the dramless samsung 980 (non-pro). It's still slightly more expensive than the P3 but at least it is faster TLC and has a higher rated lifespan at 600TBW for its 1tb model.

That said, if you want to go for the largest capacity m.2 nvme at the cheapest price, then the 4tb P3 is still the most economical one.

:(
