Is grab or uber common in Taipei?

Hi, bringing my 80 yo mother to Taipei for a week. Wanted to ask if it is easy to take grab or Uber in Taipei? Any apps to download? Or taxis is just as convenient? Appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Taxi is just as convenient but you can download Uber and use it with Taiwan number too. Uber is very very common in Taipei.
And when you registered a new Uber acc with a Taiwan number, you can get 30 days free trial for Uber One.

taiwan does not have grab, uber is not their main app to call taxi or private hire.
You can search for FindTaxi at play store and use that instead.
Taipei transport /taxi still ok but places like yilan or hualien transport is bad.
oh btw, FindTaxi app also search for "private hire" and not just taxi and most of their private hire has a charges meter inside.

Used Uber and 55688 mainly, didn't bother with the rest.
Been fast and reliable too, no complains.

No grab though, Grab only restricted to SEA.

so I used my prepaid sim Taiwan number then it works and got free trial Uber One to use with free delivery on stuff.

You don't intend to get a tourist prepaid sim? Can make local calls, unlimited data etc.

Try to register,it need tw number.

Just pre-registered in Singapore using SG number. can use the uber app overseas.

Similar to how you can use Grab app with your default account in Malaysia.

it didn't work when i wanna book a taxi, so i had to register again with my temp taiwan number.
almost got stucked in those animal farms in Yilan dunno how to leave the place. LoL.
luckily got it solved with the taiwan number.

i can't remember the details. It just wouldn't let me book taxi with a SG number.

So you guys can book taxi using uber with SG number? Don't they need a taiwan number in case the driver need to call you?

I booked Uber, not taxi exactly... maybe that's why its not working for you?
