Is this too hot?

I just upgraded my PC....actually new build.

I had been playing this Firestone Idle RPG game online via armor games dot com.
This game is very taxing on my previous legacy CPU (Athlon II X3 440) and always almost 99% utilization on my CPU.
Game was laggy but still playable...but very slow.

Now I using AMD R5 Ryzen 5600G (stock cooler)....CPU %utilization 85-90%.
I opened HWmonitor and saw temperatures screaming 80 degree celcius.

Game is much faster though, but the temperatures worrying sign for me.

Once I off the game, temperatures back to 38-40 degree celcius.

Main specs of my new build:
ASUS TUF Gaming A520M PLUS WIFI + AMD R5 5600G
Crucial Ballistix 3200MHz (8GB X 2)
Still using 5400RPM HDD (WD)
Old Andyson 450W PSU
No standalone GPU.

80 degrees can be expected with a stock cooler. Its sufficient just not great.
80 degrees is also within acceptable thermal limits for CPU's so there shouldn't be much worry about it breaking.
Factors that increase the heat will be temperature in your room and airflow through your case and ofcourse paste+cooler. Want it colder, get a better cooler

As you mentioned. Stock cooler. The delta difference between ambient air to your max temp rise is 45degC is expected.

If you wanna improve thermals, your only way is to get bigger heatsinks or water cooling aio.

Normal lar, with the stock cooler at full load this thing will either be tornado or thermal-throttling.

Just disable turbo which will cap the clockspeed to 3.9GHz and you'll be fine.

You are not thermal-throttling so the temperatures are still acceptable.

As other have mentioned, the stock cooler is not that great. Either a better cooler or adjusting the power curve will help to lower the temp.

desktop cpu rated to 90deg can go up to 100++c no problem one rah

even my R5 3600 also very hot (in 80s normal load) with air cooling (small Cryorig M9 air cooler) and in the 90s with full load. Change to cheap CM AIO much better...low 60s normal load, high 70s low 80s (depending on weather ) full load. Airflow in my case sucks so others should be lower...

It's not too hot.

You could try undervolting.

Try upgrading or putting in more case fans to help the stock cooler. IMO the Wraith Stealth is a pretty good cooler for stock because it's quiet, and can work well with case fans.

Hi Folks,
Just an update. Actually is my own boo boo.
I commit a very serious fundamental mistake.

I used an old HDD to use as an interim boot up disk to see the stability of the system before getting a M.2 NVME SSD. The old HDD already have a Win 10 OS. I see it can boot up, so out of laziness, I just let it run and install whatever stuffs that is needed. I did not do a fresh installation.

So yesterday I received my new NVME SSD and proceed to fix and install Win 10 fresh.
I proceed to run that game and voila.....the core temps hardly reached 55 celcius.
Lol.

Actually got one Bro here pointed this out after seeing I stated using old HDD. But I couldn't find his post anymore.

So all is good....

Moral of the story is always do fresh installation. It took me less than 5 mins on an NVME SSD.
Lightning fast.

Cuz you have posted in the past before so I roughly know the issue.
Do remember the correct way to install Windows.

1) Disconnect from internet.
2) Install Windows.
3) Install all the driver from manufacturer website especially the AMD Chipset driver
(*AMD Raid driver is not required.)
4) Connect back the internet and run Windows update

I myself still have a working AMD Phenom II rig in my store so I know what are the components
and software used. In particular AMD Cool and Quiet as well as the old AMD chipset driver do
not work with AMD Ryzen.

Which is why I always recommend people if you change motherboard do a clean install
of Windows along with the driver. So the new rig will function properly especially
if the Windows was updated from a much older OS to Win 10.
