Is tuition necessary?
No, it is not necessary. In fact, many things in life are not necessary. However, It will be very fortunate to be able to choose your own tutor. Many parents are willing to pay top dollar for the best teachers/coaches to enable their children to reach the fullest potential. Research has shown that students who are unlucky enough to have a succession of poor teachers lagged behind. If the teacher is second-best, the students will still suffer. Children, regardless how independent they are, will need some form of scaffolding to support them in their studies. If they can get the best tutors to guide them along the way, this will ease their burden in understanding and shorten their learning curve. ‘A’ level is of a much higher standard than ‘O’ level. Ask any student who has taken the ‘A’ level and he/she will agree. It would be wise to get help early.
Is tuition a waste of time?
No, it is not a waste of time. I am not fortunate enough to have tuition when I was in school. I worked very hard on my own, wrote my own notes, spent hours solving just one challenging question. I still managed a distinction. Tuition is not necessary. But with tuition, it would have been less time consuming and stressful for me. What took me 6 hours to learn on my own could have been completed in an hour under the guidance of a good teacher.
Should I consider home tuition or group tuition?
There are only two options.
The first option is to engage a home tutor . The student will be given more attention. In this way, the student will usually prepare a lot of questions and have all these questions answered in the lesson. The student can choose to cancel or rearrange lesson. However, there is no lesson plan and it is not so easy to find a good and reliable home tutor.
The second option is to join a tuition center that specializes in the subject. The center will design the scheme of work and issue their copyrighted notes, tests and exams. You can leave everything to the tutor and trust that he has the experience and track record to help you achieve what you want with the minimum effort. The center with a good track record has the experience to know how to succeed. You get the best tutor but yet at an affordable price as you share the cost with the rest of the class. Parents and students understand that the ‘A’ level is just a short 2 years. So it is critical that students join a center that has good tutors to ensure that students learn effectively.
Honestly, there is no third option where the student can choose a well known tutor who can teach and produce results, but with a small class size or will offer individual home tuition. Class size of popular tutors will not be small. We understand and learn through experience that class size is determined by the quality of the tutor. Parents and students will not join a center just because the fee is cheap. In the tuition business, the fee and class size is proportional to the quality of the tutor.
Naturally, popular tutors will not offer home tuition just as it would be very difficult to engage a well known surgeon in Singapore to pay us a home visit. We do not expect a short queue for a popular hawker stall in Singapore.

The physics cafe is a one stop station.
We have spent more than 10 years in the system as a student studying and scoring in exam and then 10 years as a lecturer, teaching, setting exam questions to differentiate and rank the students. We have experience all these and learnt how to play the game well. You can leave it to us to prepare you for the paper. You will just have to enjoy the process.
Read the students’ testimonials Physics Tuition | A Level H1/H2, IB HL/SL, JC Physics Tuition and you may be able to learn about how the lessons are conducted. The testimonials in the website are genuine as they linked to the facebook account of the students.
