IT helpdesk/support query

Hello everyone.

Im interested in IT jobs and have been looking for them for the past few weeks.

Im 24 but currently working as an EMT, and hold a Diploma in Sound Engineering.

I've recently found out about the CCNA course from NTUC learning hub but was wondering what other certs or foundations I should acquire before trying to apply for an entry level job?

I welcome any criticisms or opinions on this.

Do you have any PC or networking basic knowledge? It seems u are switching career to IT line. If you are totally new to IT maybe you should go for Comptia courses which are much more foundational level first.

honestly if you dont mind the pay, it is not hard to find an entry level IT helpdesk/support job if you are able to show some interest (such as building your own PCs, fixing your own computers etc before).

but the pay is usually only 1.8k-2.2k for the start and also not easy to climb after so are you sure you really want to switch to this line...

CCNA course from NTUC hub is only 5 days and too short and also quite expensive.. better to study CCNA on your own and take the exams.

If not if you do not mind spending a year or more, you can check out IT related specialist diploma courses from local polytechnics... after all you are only 24 now. such as this course https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...ploma-infocomm-digital-media-nyp-4587454.html which is 2.5 years (may be a bit long for some)

I've looked at the courses under Comptia, might get the basics from them, now I'm only looking towards how I could use my PSEA for funding them.

What do you mean by "not easy to climb"? Is there not much career progression? Or is there competition to progress? What's the Industry like?

I was thinking for someone who isn't exposed much to building a computer that this job would be a good start for acquiring basic experience.

I've never broken down computer parts hands-on but I know a little about what makes a computer.

I was also thinking why would ntuc's CCNA course that costs about $2500 would only take 5 days, I guess I should be looking elsewhere or studying on my own as you've said.

Thank you for the information regarding the specialist diploma, I'll ask more about it from them.

Just to put EMT in layman terms, I'm a 995 emergency ambulance medic.

Ccna in five days for someone who do not have any IT foundation knowledge is a no no. U will be struggling with overwhelming jargon, terminology and concepts. Go with Comptia first then proceed to Comptia network and work for one to two years on related jobs then talk about getting ccna.

Hi there,

May I suggest for you to go into the next on-demand skillset? Ex. AI, RPA, BI, DevOps, cloud-infra etc.

Nowadays, alot of people had CCNA and CCNP. I don't think it wise to compete with them who already had years of experiences to begin with.

There are courses (of course you got to fork out more) available out there for you to pick it up and be a guru. This would helps you in your career opportunities.

do you plan to go to network administrator ? helpdesk team hardly administer network devices
