Dear all - I got an old silverstone rvz01 casing with a 10 years back build with GTX 970 mini from PC theme which I just tested and it is still working.

Looking to rebuild a new pc to play a few games (CS and dota) and looking at around $1,000 budget if that is possible? I have lost touch with the existing tech and if the bros here can help recommend something it would be great!

For CS and DOTA your current PC is more than enough.
If it is slow:
- Reinstall Windows (Not reset) If you know how to.
- Get a low profile CPU cooler if you are not using one.
- Find 16GB DDR3 on Carousell.
- Upgrade SATA SSD to 500GB or 1TB.

To build a new ITX rig with $1000 is impossible
as usually ITX parts are very ex.
GPU itself there are not many that can fit this case.

Is best to reuse the GTX 970 which is still a decent card.
Finding a GPU upgrading are very rare to find a ITX/Mini card like this
on Carousell.

i think you need to minimally up your budget by another $1300 if you dun want compromises like reusing old parts or going second hand. But your case use dun seem to need much of a new pc to run. Are you planning to play on a 1080P, 2K or 4k screen?

If you dun mind a mini pc with igpu, there are still a few models out there that has not gone up much since the black friday sales at amazon. It should suit your needs while keeping it small form factor and definitely below $1000 budget.

Thanks guys - will find a 8gb ddr3 ram and 1tb ssd to try to continue using this rig, the wireless connection is unusually slow probably due to the missing antenna.

Current mobo: gigabyte h97n-wifi w i5 4460.

The antenna you can find at Sim Lim Square few shops does sell.
You can look around like Global Cybermind and 1 shop at LV3 I forget the name.

For 1K, you can look for 2nd hand option in Carousell. It's more than enough for a AM4 itx system of 5600X + 16GB + at least a 3060/4060 for gaming.

For this generation only Windows 10.
Windows 11 is through bypass but on this CPU Win 11 will be quite laggy.

Thanks all and yes tried to do a win 11 check but not compatible with it.

Just bought a 8gb ddr3 ram from
Carousell and bought the sata ssd, wifi adapter from Shopee. Will a fresh installation of win 10 help with the speed or minimal impact? The current ssd with windows already maxing out the 128gb capacity.

Yes do a fresh install of Windows 10 than install drivers if you know how to.
Fresh install of Windows will speed everything up else is bascially everything fresh.
No cache or rubbish from old Windows install if you clone over.

1) Update motherboard BIOS if you know how to if not skip.
Before you update BIOS take note of the motherboard REV.

2) Install Windows 10 while PC is offline.
(*Take out LAN cable than you can install driver properly)
(*Make sure UEFI mode is enable in the motherboard as UEFI is faster than CSM/Legacy mode.
Diabled the CSM support than under the Windows 8 Features set Win 8
Secure boot put to enable as Windows require this for security features.)

- Intel Chipset (This is for motherboard chipset to work properly)
- Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI)
- Intel LAN -> WIFI -> BT
- Realtek Audio
- Nvidia Graphic driver
3) Connect to internet run Windows update make sure everything is up to date.

And done that's it.
It may take 1 or 2 hours to get everything.
For the system drivers just take note you do not need the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) or AHCI driver.

This generation the Intel storage driver have some issues so recommended not to install.
I did have a H97/Z97 recently here such PC is still usuable for day to day or light gaming.

If cannot even power up might be PSU? Or got power but can’t go into bios likely mobo?

I think got to trial and error. I got another spare pc built for parents in the past lying around as well.
