Hey guys. I brought a small Japanese display katana which is not sharp and about palm size big.

Do I have to declare it when coming back to SG ? I don't want to declare if I don't have to do as to avoid any unnecessary attention and waste time.

I was thinking of trying u luck to bring back home. Would they really fine u $10K or just give u a warning for the first time ?

Hu? Think palm size meaning is pretty clear. Constructive comments pls.

if it is shaped anything like a sword... u need to declare...

my fren brought in a samuria figurine... on top of the head got one small samurai sword... not sharp... just for decoration... kenna stop when he go to collect his check in luggage... end up he was held back by 3 hours in the custom area... while the officer go check the thing... even ask my fren to provide the address and contact number from the shop... went online to check all the information...

in the end let him bring in...

Yeah, don't play play.

Declare like a good boy. You have nothing to hide cause you have no bad intentions, that's what you must show to the customs officers.

Declare ...... Worst thing that can happen is confiscate. The alternative of not declaring is worse .....

Take note that the explanation that it is not sharp is not a good excuse... coz they can always assume it can be taken out to sharpen...

best is there are receipts and declaration from the shop that it is a toy or decorations... might help...

This looks serious. I would not have thought that we need to declare first. How about kitchen knives like cleavers or swiss army knives for instance.

kitchen knives no need. swiss army knife most likely need approval from Police Licensing and Regulatory Department (PLRD)

Just declare. If you really want it, can always get the customs officers to help/advice you on applying for a permit.

swiss army knives if blades are less than certain length no need... just check in luggage... if not wrong should be less than 3 inches... i always bring with me 2 swiss army knives whenever i go travelling... no issues...

make sure ur swiss army knives the blades are not those spring loaded... might be considered as flick knives which are strictly prohibited...

i think there is a knives thread somewhere... might have useful information there...
