Hi im being offered computer science from SIT, however with no prior experience in computing as I did not took it as a subject in JC, I would like to ask if an A level student is able to fare well in SIT against poly students who likely have experience in the IT field

Having a strong foundation in math helps a lot more in computer science, as compared to programming.

The computer science course you are offered is it from DigiPen?

Or the joint program from University of Glasgow and SIT Computing Science?

If you are offered DigiPen RTIS, you must be strong with Math with at least H2 maths and physic foundation. Passing score is 70% instead of 50%.

If you are offered the joint program UoG-SIT, it is new program that is based on SIT-ICT with add on Computing Science module. SIT-ICT curriculum is very intensive in terms on hands-on applied learning. 10 programming language will be required for 1st year.

Python
C
HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript/MySQL/PHP
Assembly for embedded device
C++
Java.

Spoiling market in SIT-ICT is like a norm.
Basic assignment for first term only require basic data processing, end up there's people doing machine learning and prediction with python.

Therefore, you should prepare yourself by learning some programming language.

For math, prepare discrete maths. It is something H2 math don't prepare you for. While for statistics, H2 statistics should lay good foundation.

Just go there and learn from ground 0, if you are offered a place, means the prof have confidence that you will be able to complete the program.

SIT is not like A level and NTU/NUS where doing 10 years series can clear your exams, you need to understand what you are doing as exam is testing on your understanding. SIT don't provide past year paper too.

SIT normally give you assignment that help you practice on what is taught in class, self learning is required as University don't spoonfed you with the knowledge directly.
