Yes, it does cover all trains in Hokkaido - only JR trains in Hokkaido. Google for JR Hokkaido seat reservation.

I mean is Hokkaido JR pass also cover limited express train in Hokkaido

Yes. Did you try searching for the official website to find out details?
And there are many other JR Passes available, including the nationwide one. Please be more precise with your questions in future.

As long as regional JR pass show you the map that it will cover, you can take all types of trains under JR and probably non-JR. it will tell you exclusion ones in the website.

Limited express trains are typically long distance ride and are owned by JR only in Hokkaido.

It is waste of time to call changi recommends who know limited information. you are better off looking at JR hokkaido website.

There is no shinkansen line in hokkaido.
Shinkansen can only come from Tokyo station to Shin-Hakuto-Hakodate Station. it is a big duh.

Your first post mentioned JR Pass. I assumed you meant nationwide JR Pass. I don’t get what you mean contradicting.

The trains in Hokkaido are all run by JR, none by private operators unlike in Honshu, so the pass works for all Hokkaido trains - limited express and local trains.

Please take note not all trains in hokkaido are run by Jr, nearby sapporo have trains run by other companies if I am not wrong. Therefore Jr pass don't cover those.

For JR be it express, limited express or normal train (basically same route i.e from Tomakomai to Noboribetsu, more stop over within the route), ALL can be use by JR pass.

There's No reservation for Normal train.

Limited express seats can be reserved in advance at the ticket counter too. Based on my experience for the past 13 days, usually just book 1 day in advance, for next day travelling route. Between Hakodate, Noboribetsu, Chitose, Obihiro, Asahikawa should be fine for 1 day in advance.

Just to take note when you are at Sapporo, you might need to book 2 days in advance.... trying to book the early train to Chitose but all fully booked between 7 to 9am...

I'm at Hokkaido now. Yes, JR pass covers limited Express train. Show your JR pass when going in and out of station. If you are using green card, no reservation of seat required. Free seating. Be early else you would have to stand for 2 hours journey.

Also, plan your journey. The train only comes at selected time. You may have to wait long if you miss it.

That is good that you google it. Unfortunately, it is not a popular spot for tourist to transfer at.

I can tell you that right now hokkaido shinkansen line is now mainly for bringing people from Tokyo and tohoku region to hokkaido. There is future plan to expand towards Sapporo. Hence, my post still stand at certain extent.

I think it is ok. the shinkansen seat is much better than plane one. I can recline with more leg space. it is something I can't do during domestic flight.

No doubt right now hokkaido shinkansen are mainly bringing people from japan main land to hokkaido.

Somehow changi recommends have made it clear to me that JR hokkaido pass isn't cover the shinkansen despite it's only 2 station.

just read jr hokkaido website. can liao. It is official information. Avoid third party information in case there is mix up because there are more than one regional JR pass type issued by jr hokkaido.
