Hi. I am travelling in August by Scoot. Arriving in KIX at 6pm. Wanted to skip Osaka and head straight to Nagoya. I am on budget and was wondering is it doable to use the Kintetsu pass instead of the JR pass. For the Kintetsu pass do I need to buy ticket from KIX airport to Osaka-Namba [A01] station? Will it be risky as I guess the journey is around 2-3hours from Osaka to Nagoya by Kintetsu line.....Or I should bite the bullet to buy JR pass? If JR pass which one?

My plan is to visit Nagoya area and Takayama to Shirakawa-Go. Travelling from 3 August 18 August....

Takayama and Shirakawa give you max 3 nights, u should cover all of it le, cant be remaining days all at Nagoya, 3 days u will finish too.

I am not sure what is your intended usage of the Kintetsu Pass. It is also valid for 5 days and Limited Express fares need to be paid separately for using the pass now. The one way Limited Express fare between Namba and Nagoya is 1900 JPY (It used to be 3 free Limited Express rides per pass). I personally think the Kintetsu Pass is more useful when the trip includes Ise Shima area.

The journey to Nagoya using the Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass is much further. When considering the pass, I realised that if not using luggage forwarding service, one may either have to bring along the luggage via going to Shirakawago or do a bit of back tracking while visiting Shirakawago without the luggage.

I did not know that. You mean after buying the pass, I still need to pay for the individual trip? I am looking for a cheap way to get to Nagoya from KIX. I have been to Osaka/Kyoto/etc...and thinking of skipping those places. I don't mind travelling on bus/limited train...just want to save some money.

If you are looking at direct train that bring you to Nagoya in 2h, a topup is required. If you are looking at multiple transfers to reach with no extra cost but longer time, you may or may not be able to reach Nagoya for the night. You need to check the train schedule to confirm.

Using the pass on the day of your arrival may be quite a waste too since it is counted as Day 1 despite starting so late.

To add on:
You can check the access guide on Japan Guide for travelling to Nagoya from Osaka for ideas. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3302.html?aFROM=2155_2157
