My laptop is dell vostro 5460, bought a few years ago with no warranty anymore.
Now its having issue where I cant switch on the computer without plugging in adapter.
When adapter is plugged in, it will show Battery Not Detected/Charging,0% available(the percentage does not increase even after hours).
Is it a problem with the battery or what? Do i have to take down to computer shop and change it?
Called dell and they say most probably battery/motherboard problem. They quote me battery for $100.

From your description, it's most probably a dead battery.
You can purchase one from Dell.
Alternatively you can purchase a 3rd party one from Simlim.
Not too sure on prices for this though since it is a pretty unique and slightly rare model - part of the business range of laptops from Dell iirc.

It is not. Even if they tell you it is, it is not. Assume it is not. It is cheaper but it is not original.

If you were to head down to simlim there's even one shop which has a [PSA] piece of paper stating that all batteries in SLS are not legit.

Able to take a picture and post it over here? Can take a look for you.
You can check if it's new through charge counts / cycles.

Here is an extreme case of a bloated battery

If it's dead, it's best to swap it out if possible.
If you notice any signs of bloating / budging from your laptop's housing stop usage immediately.

This was what happened to my sister's Thinkpad Edge with an internal battery.
