Hello, hoping someone could help me.

I have an Asus laptop K43S about 4 years old now. Switched it on, it boots to Asus then blank. I tried again with safe mode and it's the same. Tried taking out the hdd and it boots fine into the bios. What can I do?

IF nothing works, I am ok witb trying to get it to factory settings. Tried switching on + f9, choose 'windows setups [EMS enabled]'. What comes out is the recovery background only. That's it. No cmd box or any other prompts. Hope someone can help. thank you.

Thanks for the suggestion. It seems like the way to go but for now it's not possible. I don't have another laptop to put the hdd into or an external casing for a 2.5" hard disk. Would it be cheaper to send it for repair rather than buying a external casing?

An external casing is about $20 tops.
What's your initial OS that came with the K43? - Win8?
and on that note, any upgraded OS? - i.e. to Win 8.1

Windows 7 home and still on the same OS. Didn't upgrade. Btw just realise, if I saw an empty recovery, wouldn't that mean it's corrupted? There would be no use to copy it out?

Looks more like a harddisk failure.

You can either pull out the harddisk and put in an external 2.5" casing to check

OR

Built a bootable thumbdrive, let it run softwares like harddisk regenerator to confirm whether the harddisk is faulty.

If harddisk is the fault, then you will need to change the harddisk and reinstall the OS and drivers from scratch.
