laptop for poly

i'm considering these 2 laptops which i'll be using for my design course in poly

which one would be a better choice?

get the cheapest one lah. i5 is enough actually. wanna increase performance, make sure ur HDD is an SSD.

I found the HP envy on the nanyang Poly seems to be quite good. Any idea can this be ordered if you are from Singapore poly ?

the asus s46 battery life not so good, max abt 3-4 hrs
but that is due to the low capacity 4cell battery

also the cover is a smudge/fingerprints magnet

Personally I would recommend that you purchase the notebook from your Polytechnic as it comes pre-installed with commonly used software.

If you are thinking of getting one your own, I would recommend Windows 7 laptops as they may be software compatibility issues.

Not sure if got software comes pre-installed but if you're taking design, I don't think they will give free license for Adobe products? And for MS Office, any laptop bought from outside should comes with starter version.

Can elaborate wat common software are preinstall specifically for poly?? Wat I bought 2 yrs ago did not hve any `preinstalled' software for poly. Eg, Microsoft office was starter kit...need to buy separately if needed...just tat can get at student price. In other words....software installed same as outside...just tat hve longer warranty period, ram upgrade and accessories freebies.....

Whether the various window OS iterations will hve compatibility issues are basically tied to whether the school's software hve been upgraded to meet latest windows OS. From the latest poly laptop offers....manufacturers are offering win 7 and 8........thus, assume OS should not be an issue.
