Does laptop using SSD and Windows 10 would decreased performance after used over one year ?

My laptop used HDD and Windows 7 had decreased performance and must reinstall windows each year.

The performance decrease is on Windows, not the storage medium.

Windows tends to accumulate bulk over time. Somehow that has not changed since Windows 95, though it's better now but still needs work. Part of it is due to the nature of its updates and app installations/uninstallations leaving residual data all over the registry.

Some optimisations help slow down, but now that NVMe drives are so fast, I just reinstall. What used to take an entire weekend can be done in 2h now, with the slowest part still Windows Update.

With documents backed up on OneDrive and contact/email information on Google, it's actually pretty quick to get back up, especially if you have your installation files ready on a NAS or external HDD. You can even shorten the step by doing a very clean installation (without login), install all your apps, then image the hard drive and store the restore image somewhere. Whenever you want to reset, just restore the clean image, run a full round of updates, log in to your sites and MS account, and you're back up in under an hour. This is what I do now, and I have a fully working system back up in 30 mins, with OneDrive downloading my files in the background as I work.

I've been using ssd laptops for six years now. Never do I feel win 10 slows down after usage. Though the longest time I used win 10 is about four years.

SSD performance slows down when the drive is filled. I never filled one up so I can't tell you if that's true or not.

Haha, it slows down. Compared to OS X, Windows' slowdown is really obvious.

You instantly feel the difference when you reinstall and it feels snappy again.

What is the laptop brand ?

I've used Dell and Fujitsu. Brand doesn't matter that much.

I've used between sata and nvme. Used evo 860 and Intel 660 (nvme). They are lower entry but I can tell the diff between SATA and nvme. Though the diff is like a few seconds diff. So it is not huge.

To be honest Windows 7 is the best, it only have one build
and install Windows update till it's end of life cycle period
to make it usable.

Issue with Windows regardless of version is the amount of
junk files, cache from browser temp etc.
Use Windows Disk Cleaner, CCleaner as well as defrag the HDD.

Windows 10 every 6 months there will be new version.
Example 1909 to 20H2, you can just upgrade to that version.
However overtime when version keeps overlapping each
other the OS may crash.

So it's not whether SSD or HDD but how you maintain the PC.

Some ssd like samsung 840/850 and intel 520 slow down after some time due to firmware issue.
