Will recommend Lenovo Stinkpad E16 AMD processor

Spec out with 16GB (x1) and 512GB SSD, Intel wifi card and largest battery options. Later want to upgrade, buy RAM and SSD and add to the extra slots. Can use as mobile, plus at home can consider getting an external monitor/keyboard/dock and watching movies on even bigger screen

Though the Gen 2 would be fine for you, I would go for the Gen 3 versions because of a more recent onboard GPU

https://www.lenovo.com/sg/en/configurator/cto/index.html?bundleId=21STCTO1WWSG3

Go to the Customise link and change the options to what you need. Minimum, should change
  • CPU to Ryzen 7 250,
  • single 16GB RAM stick (so you have a spare slot to upgrade later)
  • Wifi card to Intel 6E version
  • Battery to largest capacity available
No need go back to Lenovo for upgrade. Use a tool like CPU-Z or HWINFO to check the exact RAM type - timing and frequency and buy online. Same for SSD - buy online. Can ownself open up laptop upgrade or ask your neighbourhood shop upgrade for you.

If you want to stick to the Gen 2, also can as long as got significant savings. Just go to Customise for that generation and upgrade to the highest tier CPU, etc. For the type of usage you are looking for, should be fine.

Not sure about models from other manufacturers - should be similar. Maybe wait for others to recommend.

Hi all, seeking advice for a laptop as my old laptop died on me.

Purpose of the laptop is purely surfing net, work use - running of words / excel files and streaming of movies.

Budget < 1.5K, prefer to have large screens.

Came across the below deal from shopee - https://shopee.sg/-New-2025-Model-A...29?xptdk=f3477040-111d-412d-8fa5-5173c541b79e

Can anyone advice on whether its a good buy?
just look at asus or acer, no need see any other brands. had lenovo as company laptops in different workplaces and it always have issues! what adapter or battery problems, motherboard crash? even when its literally brand new! (less than 2 yrs), or keep hanging etc. other brands like dell, hp etc...prices not competitive at all.

Can consider shop.singtel.com/accessories?category=laptops - basic models. Enjoy their PayLater 12/24/26 option or settle in full.

IMO, longevity wise Thinkpad a bit "tougher" but that might be just me cos of historical experience.

Thinkbook maybe a bit lighter, but has a SD card reader (which Thinkpad doesn't). Dunno how easy it is to self-upgrade parts in the Thinkbook though.

Anyway, Thinkbook should be fine - but change up some of the options -
  • Memory - make it 1x16GB - so you can choose to add another 16GB or 32GB stick later in the empty second slot.
  • Battery - get the higher 4 cell slightly higher capacity one - might help you when you are off charge once in a while
