Lenovo Thinkpad recommendations

Hi,

Recently browsed some Thinkpads and it seems abit confusing with so many diff series and specs.

Was narrowing on E & T series but couldn’t tell the diff even for specs and I feel I am overspending for what I use for.

Mainly using for work (excel), some trading programs, not gaming at all.

Appreciate some guidiance and recommendations on Thinkpad or any other suitable laptops.

For me I bought a second hand x260 from lazada in 2021. You can still buy for less than $200 now.

Some upgrades to consider: fhd ips screen, 16gb or 32gb ram, 72Wh battery, ssd

Now still using it. It lasted longer than another china laptop i bought

I'm also looking for a AMD CPU Thinkpad. I have a question on the Thinkpad naming. eg ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11

What does the Gen 11 refer to ? Does it mean this is the 11th model of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon ? Has it anything to do with the CPU mode or anything else ?

Oh.. and also any idea why some model can be customised and some not ? If I see a model and I tried to get more RAM / Storage but cannot customise. So no way, I an get more RAM / Storage for that model ?

Thinkpad T series is superior to E series in quality and features (display, finishing, materials, WWAN option).

No need anymore. The few Eeyer series I handled, want to throw away. Low end IdeaPad quality pretending to be ThinkPads. From most IT departments, even in terms of QC, the E series absolutely cannot make it - the failure rate is too high.

Get L series at least.

Have done SI work, and have overseen deployments of X1, T, X, L, and E series.

Can categorically state that failure rate of E series is noticeably higher. Also, physical damage rate appears higher than the others.

There are many larger companies that avoid the E series altogether because it's just not worth it. When companies bulk buy, they can get sufficient savings that L series cost low enough not to worry.

In addition to inferior parts, the E series is more troublesome to repair, which causes more downtime. This adds to the inconvenience and makes it even less worth it.

Hence, many who do internal deployments all call it the Eeyer series.

I'm not gonna call it "bad", but it's not "good".

I have a few, they're usable.

But the electronics are not as durable. They tend to last 4-5 years vs thinkpads lasting 10+ years with no problems.

Might be better off buying a consumer laptop - at least some other hardware components are better.

mentioned before, ex-companies also uses lenovo, but always have a lot of problems like battery / adapter, and even motherboard crash within less than a year. and its was brand new, not 2nd hand sets! if anyone have positive experiences and recommend the brand / model, its certainly not me. hahahaha
