Linux Mint 17.3 startup help

Hi all, I've installed Linux Mint 17.3 on one of my PCs. I have also used it for a couple times without any problems. However this time when I tried to start it up it stayed on a black screen with a blinking underscore cursor thing at the top left of the screen, and nothing happens for a long time. Tried restarting couple of times but still the same result. Anyone knows what I can do to solve this? Thanks

Try booting from a usb to see whether its ur harddisk issue?

Yeah I think I did the last time I used it. Damn does this mean I will have to wipe the OS and install linux again?

u have to boot into single boot and figure out why the system is not working
