Clubsnap use to be very active in the early 2000s. You see now very little update, to the extend no point posting. Similiary there's little update here.

Before 2010, most general/normal users have a dedicated camera (be it DSLR or PNS). Fast foward, more from these grp switching to mobile phone.

On the other hand, over go to mobile community grp theres active discussion on (mobile) camera.

General trend moving foward is decidated camera will be more expensive (with Canon R5/6 setting the benchmark). As such, only ppl earning a living out of it or serious hobbyist will remain.
Yes, Clubsnap spoiled by a few overzealous moderators and some arrogant senior members who think they knew everything ...

Deserved to a be a ghost town if you ask me !

Remember those days.

And then the arguments.

They had their halcyon days on CS.

I still see a handful of old names here.

Yes, those banter initially were good and acceptable as there’s spirit of brotherhood in the sharing of knowledge ...

Then, some overzealous moderaters came along with their draconian rules and banned every little things to the letter ...

Then, some members with some knowledge of photography also came in and act as if they have the God damn right and owned the forum and try to make it into an exclusive forums for only professionals, every questions asked were met with go Google yourself ... that’s exactly what happened, members left to Google rendering the Clubsnap forum obsolete and a ghost town.

Served them right, though ... they got what they wanted ...

Ho ho ho, they caused their own downfall... too high and mighty and lost themselves in the glory of being mentioned by PM on singapore news / media.

Having 'professionals' moderate the forum helped too, where you cannot have a different idea or being correct.

Yes, you’re certainly correct. They have this certain gang of people in there where you can’t have different opinions.

Actually served them right because arrogance too have caused their downfall ... Obviously, a newbie in photography will have questions which at some point other newbies may have asked. But all the newbies question are replied with asking the newbies to Google themselves ... so what’s the point of the forum then ?

They certainly lost touch with their base ... they should look at other similar forums overseas. They have patience. I learned so much from the real professionals there ... some even wrote books but they were humble, i saw them answering repeated questions with much patience and professionalism ...

The moderators of the ghost town forum were like newbie policemen, first time tasted power and overzealous in ā€œarrestingā€ people ... saw them banning members for trivial matters ...

Anyway, it’s a ghost town now, nobody for them to ban oredi ... haha šŸ˜‚

cheers

They had professionals moderate the forum but similarly, it's the 'I'm the pro, you shuddap and listen' mentality. The best is "Don't teach us how to do our job" and "If you don't like it, you can leave".

I still remember one of the Admins have a share in one of the camera business, and when somebody sells the same product cheaper than them, he removes the thread and issues warning. LOL...

That’s exactly what happened, all left loh ... šŸ˜‚

Also, some of the Admins/moderators have connections to the cameras/gadgets from from the brand ... and when you made some negatives comments, they became defensive of the company/brand and then their gang will come and ā€œattackā€ you ...

Now with youtube doing all these stuff much more professionally, who needs them now ? Haha ... that’s why it’s a ghost town now, the brand give them the camera in advance oso no use now ... šŸ˜‚

Yeah man, now that you mentioned it, i can recall that ... one Taiko post a few photos, his gang will go hoo-ha & praise and clap hand ... then the other gang oso post his & the rest start praising ... they enjoy receiving each other’s praise ... you praise me, i praise you, ownself praise ownself, in malay the saying is ā€œsyiok sendiri !ā€ šŸ˜‚

Then whenever a new camera is coming out or launching soon, some of the Admin will have a hand on the camera first from the camera brand, not sure is give or buy or loan though, but they can lay their hands on it first. He used it to take some photos and the rest applause like you say.

Once, i saw someone said the after sales service is no good and the launch event is poorly done or the marketing is bad bcos only very few sets available ... walau the Admin so defensive and gave a lecture to that member on the difficulties & constraints the camera company is facing ... then all his gang came out and castrated the member ...

That’s why in YouTube when they do reviews on new cameras, they bought it with their own money !

Now we know why it’s called ClubSnap, it’s a club where if you give negative comments, they will snapped ! Thus ClubSnap ... šŸ˜‚

They should have called it SnapGhost bcos after they snapped, now it’s like a Ghost town, thus SnapGhost šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
